The full name of the garden, Jardín Botánico de Mar i Murtra, translates as Botanical Garden Sea and Myrtle tree. The garden area is divided into three zones: subtropics, temperate zone and Mediterranean.

After visiting the garden, an indescribable feeling remains for a long time, as if you had just returned from a fairy tale. Every time you look at the photo, these feelings come back. Although photos cannot replace what you saw.

If you visit the Marimurtra Botanical Garden in Blanes, Spain will reveal another amazing side. Therefore, even if you, like me, are completely incompetent with plants, set aside at least half a day to explore this unique attraction. At least I didn’t regret for a minute that instead of another trip to the beach, I finally decided to go to Blanes small town in Catalonia on the Costa Brava. I only regretted that I only got out at lunchtime, because staying in this place is a real relaxation for the soul. And I had absolutely no time left to explore other attractions of this town with a long history, in particular another botanical garden - Jardín Pinya de Rosa, which displays the largest collection of succulents in Europe. But the Marimurtra garden is also one of the most popular not only in the country , but also on the entire European continent. The number of tourists visiting this place is growing from year to year, and the reviews are extremely positive.

Story

In two years, Marimurtra will celebrate its centenary. The garden was founded back in 1920 by botanist Karl Faustom on the mountainside between two bays.

The name translates from Spanish as “sea and myrtle”. There are truly stunning seascapes here that you can admire endlessly.

But even more impressive is the collection of plants. There are over 4 thousand species, of which about four hundred are considered rare and even endangered. The value of this collection is recognized at the state level - the garden is given the status of a cultural heritage of Catalonia.

Exposition

The territory is divided into separate zones, where the vegetation of Africa, North and South America, China, Japan, Mexico, Canary Islands. There are also three major climatic zones with plants growing in the Mediterranean, subtropics and temperate climates. On the top tier there is a water garden with plants growing in the water.

In addition to plants, the garden has many other interesting things, such as viewing terraces and gazebos stylized as Roman towers. The rotunda “Temple of Linnaeus” offers a stunning view of the sea.

Tired of walking, you can sit on a bench, enjoy the birds singing or watch the turtles in the pond. From the first minutes of your stay here, you are immersed in some absolutely fantastic state of peace, tranquility and bliss. This amazing combination of natural beauty and human creativity will not leave anyone indifferent.

Important details:

  • It is easy to get from Barcelona to Blanes by train. The garden is located on a mountain away from the port. You can get here by bus (departing every 15 minutes from Plaza Catalunya in the city center) or walk - the road from the center is a half hour walk at most.
  • Opening hours from June to September - from 9.00 to 20.00. In April, May and October - until 18.00, and in other months - from 10.00 to 17.00. On some holidays the garden is closed to tourists. The entrance ticket costs 6 Euro.
  • Before visiting, read the description and be sure to take a map with you - this will make it easier for you to navigate the fairly large area (the garden area is more than 16 hectares).
  • In the souvenir shop at the entrance you can buy a beautiful blooming cactus (cost - from 1 to 5 Euros). It will bring back good memories of visiting this amazing place, as well as photos of the Marimurtra Botanical Garden, looking through which, I constantly catch myself thinking that it would be nice to visit here again.

The Marimurtra Botanical Garden is one of the most famous in Spain. This is a place where reality seems like magic. On the well-groomed territory of the park there is a huge collection of plants (more than 3.5 thousand) from the five continents of the planet. There are neat walking paths throughout the garden, a walk along which will give you not only beautiful memories, but also some stunning panoramic views of the Costa Brava.

This amazing park, endowed with the status of a cultural heritage of the state, was founded by philanthropist and amateur biologist Carl Faust Schmidt more than eighty years ago. Its creation was supposed to be the first step towards the construction of an international center for scientific research in Blanes.

The huge space of the botanical garden houses an amazingly rich collection of plants (about 3,500 thousand specimens) from the five continents of the planet. Here you can see Mediterranean and South African vegetation, wander through the area of ​​medicinal plants, and look into the cactus thickets.

When walking among cacti, it is better to be careful: some specimens are dangerous to humans!

Near each plant there is a sign with a short description in English.

A separate area is occupied by the Josias Braun-Blanquet Garden of Regional Flora. Particularly rare and valuable plant representatives are collected here. Entrance to the territory of this garden for vacationers is limited.

In the center of the Marimurtra Botanical Park there is a cozy place where you can relax a bit and have a cool drink. You can also take a break during the excursion on one of the benches that are equipped throughout the area.

From the upper terrace there is a stunning view of the sea ​​coast, after admiring which you can go down the stairs and endlessly enjoy the light breeze, the view of the azure sea, the fragrance of flowers and the cry of seagulls.

  • From 9-00 to 20-00 from June to September.
  • From 9-00 to 18-00 in April, May and October.
  • From 10-00 to 17-00 from November to March.

The cost of an adult ticket is 6.50 euros. Children under 4 years old are free.

How to get there

The park is located on the outskirts of Blanes, north of the city, on the slope of Mount San Juan. You can go exploring plants on foot from central square Blanes or on a special tourist bus. But it’s better by transport - after all, the garden is located on a mountain slope.

Marimutra Botanical Garden was founded in 1921. More than 3,000 species of plants brought from various regions of South America and Africa grow on its territory. There are 3 main climatic zones: tropical, subtropical and Mediterranean. In turn, each of these zones is divided into 6-8 zones: Mexico, Japan, China, the Canary Islands and others.

How to get there:

As I said in the previous part, you can easily get to the Marimutra Garden on foot, while admiring the beautiful embankment of the city. There is a second option - using the Open Tour bus. I note that in order to get to the second cactus park and back, you will have to use this transport, because... the road to get there on foot is much more difficult.
