An economical alternative to hotels can be apartments, flats or guesthouses, which actively offer local residents to those coming.
Prices for a studio-type room (with everything you need) start from 40 euros in the season and go up to 100 euros or more, but this takes into account the fact that such apartments usually have several bedrooms. By dividing the amount among all those staying, you can relax on a budget, cook your own food, or negotiate with the owners about breakfast for an additional fee.

On the fifteenth of August in Greece they celebrate the great holiday of Kimisi tis Feotoku - the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which Christians all over the world call " Summer Easter" This is the time of completion of vacations for the Greeks and pilgrimages to holy places.

The sun is active in August, so do not forget about sunglasses and creams, especially for people with light skin tones and children. Be sure to have hats with you, preferably white - this color best reflects the sun's rays. Try to stay out of the sun between noon and 4 p.m., when the daytime solar activity peaks. At this time, the local population has a traditional “siesta” - an afternoon rest.

When is the best time to go to Greece?

Let's start with a small digression. It is clear that the answer to the question of when is the best time to go on holiday to Greece is quite subjective. There cannot be one solution that suits all tourists, because everyone has their own purpose for the trip. Therefore, when writing the review, we tried to guess the interests of travelers and selected the optimal dates and suitable resorts for them. Most likely, the purpose of your trip to Greece will also be found in the material, but if not, don’t worry, Hellas is worth attention at any time of the year.

Dynamics of changes in prices for holidays in Greece by month

Here's how with financial side Greece looks like: the holiday season with high prices falls on the New Year holidays and midsummer, and prices reach their minimum in early spring.

Where and when is the cheapest holiday in Greece?

When there are no restrictions on money, you can spend the tourist season in Greece at any resort and not deny yourself anything. But if finances are limited, but you really want to go abroad, you have to carefully look for options when it’s better to go to the seaside in Greece. There are two ways here:

  1. Make a reservation for the end of May-beginning of June, or mid-September (when tours drop in price).
  2. Wait for the season and keep track of last-minute trips to Greek resorts. Of course, they are offered at the last minute, but with discounts of up to 50%.

Prices also vary by region of Greece. Holidays in Crete and Chalkidiki will be more affordable. Traveling to the Peloponnese and Rhodes will cost a little more, but tours to Corfu and Kos are considered the most expensive.

The above applies to beach holidays and the swimming season. If you are interested in sightseeing in Greece, then when is the best and cheapest time to go, we answered in the previous section: the most budget months for vacation are early spring and late autumn.

When is the best time to go on vacation to excursions and carnivals?

Some tourists try to plan their vacation so as to get abroad on National holidays and festivals. In this case, the decision about when tourists fly to Greece depends on the dates of cultural events.

A number of ceremonies in Greece are dedicated to Christmas and New Year holidays. Shops are full of beautiful windows, cities are decorated like Christmas trees, songs and music do not stop on the streets. After the New Year, the Orthodox celebrations of the Great Baptism begin.

In March, Greeks celebrate Independence Day. Large-scale processions, celebrations and ceremonies take place in cities. In April, the most important holiday for believers is Easter. It is celebrated very widely in Greece and leaves a lot of impressions. Also worth attention are the secular holiday of May 1 and the Christian day of Agios Konstandinos (May 21).

Summer is the time for cultural festivals that last for months. In summer you can find interesting events anywhere in Greece, so we will note only the most famous:

  • Renaissance Festival in Rethymno (Crete, July-August);
  • Sani Festival in Kasandra (Chalkidiki, July-September);

  • Rhodes Festivals (May, September);
  • Music festival in Fira (Santorini, September).

In addition, village wine festivals, craft fairs and farmers' markets are worth visiting.

In autumn, most of the celebrations are Christian. Greeks celebrate the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (September 6), the Feast of St. John the Evangelist (September 24), St. Demetrius' Day (October 26) and the Feast of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel (November 8).

As a result, to visit festivals and explore museums, it is better to go on vacation to Greece in the spring: the weather gets better after winter, the hotels are cheap, and there are enough events. Of course, summer in Greece is a record holder for festivals, but in many regions the weather is hot, and housing prices are very high.
