Visit Belarus on your own for 5 days. What to see in Belarus by car

Belarus is famous for its forests, lakes and rivers, but they are not the only things that attract tourists. There are many ancient castles and monuments that combine perfectly with modern buildings. To experience all the beauty of this country, you should travel in the summer and by car.

What to see in Belarus?

Belarus is a small state located in the center of Europe, but which attracts more and more tourists every year. This is an excellent holiday option for residents of Russia, because no visas are needed and there is no language barrier.

For travel convenience, we will review what to see in Belarus by car in the summer. Let's highlight the most popular cities and places in this country:

  • Minsk;
  • Stalin's Line;
  • Khatyn;
  • Brest Fortress;
  • Grodno;
  • Skidel;
  • Polotsk

Each of these points has its own characteristics, which makes them unique. Below we will take a closer look at each of them.

Minsk is the capital of Belarus

Usually a trip to Belarus begins from its capital - Minsk. This is a beautiful and amazing city, so every tourist will find here something that he will like. Let's look at the places you definitely need to go to:

The most popular places in Minsk have been highlighted, but that’s not all. There are also many museums, theaters, shopping centers and much more.

Stalin line

A historical complex dedicated to the victory of the people in the Great Patriotic War. This memorial was opened in 2005 on the site of fortifications that stretched along the western borders of the USSR.

Getting there by car is quite easy: along the P28 highway “Minsk - Molodechno”. The complex is located 28 kilometers from the capital.

On Stalin's lines It will be interesting for both adults and children. Here you can climb the trenches, visit technical rooms built in the likeness of those that were during the war, etc. You can also ride a real tank and shoot from a cannon or any other weapon.

Khatyn - destroyed village

To honor the memory of those who fell during the Great Patriotic War, it is worth going to Khatyn. This is a memorial complex built on the site of a burned village.

Khatyn is located 54 kilometers from Minsk. The car must be driven on the highway M3(Minsk-Vitebsk), when you see the sign, you should turn off and drive another 5 km.

The complex exactly replicates the pre-war village. On the site of previously installed houses there are obelisks with bells. There is a sculpture in the center "The Unruly Man". Nearby there is a wall of grief, where all the villages burned by the Nazis are indicated.

In the summer, you can go to the palace and park complex located in the city Nesvizh. This point in Belarus is truly fascinating and will not leave anyone indifferent.

To begin with, we note that the distance from Minsk will be 70 km. You need to go on the highway M1(Minsk-Brest), as soon as you arrive in the city, there will be a sign to the castle.

Here it is worth taking a walk through the park, which fascinates with lakes and alleys. But also go to Castle of the Radziwill Princes, showing us how they lived. Note that it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Another famous castle in Belarus is Mirsky, which is also included in the UNESCO list. The castle is located on a hill, so it is easy to see from anywhere in the city.

Mir Castle is located 102 km from Minsk. You also need to go by car along the M1 highway (Minsk-Brest).

The castle is made of red and white bricks; it was built as a defensive structure, but, in fact, did not participate in wars. For tourists there is a chapel and towers showing the life of the former owners of the castle. Next to the castle there is a lake that keeps secrets and legends. To find out, book one of the excursions offered by local tour operators.

Brest Fortress

One of the famous landmarks of Belarus and the main monument of the Second World War is Brest Fortress. After all, she was the first to take the blow of the fascist invaders.

In memory of the fallen wars, this memorial complex was erected there, occupying an area of almost 4 kilometers. Here you can walk through the ruins of the bastion, see the surviving buildings and monuments. Every visitor who visits the fortress will feel all the pain experienced during the war.

65 km from Brest There is another site marked by UNESCO -. It is a nature reserve in which trees and plants have been preserved, untouched by humans. There are also enclosures with animals, which are looked after by the holders of the reserve. If you are planning a vacation with children, then this is one of the places you definitely need to come to. To make it easier to walk and not get lost, it is better to book an excursion.

Royal Grodno

Grodno often considered the European and royal city of the republic. The residences of various princes and kings were located here for several centuries.

Nowadays it is considered a regional city. Conventionally, it can be divided into an old and a new city. The city center is the old part, where the main attractions are located: several churches, the New Castle, the ruins of the Old Castle, a wonderful park, a theater and much more. Note that Grodno is famous for its zoo, which is the largest zoo in Belarus. Both adults and children will find it interesting in this city.

Skidel - sweet town

30 km from Grodno on the river Discount the city is spread out Skidel. It was founded in 1508, so it has a lot of history. He managed to visit the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Russian Empire. Of the historical places, only the nineteenth-century Catholic church and the gate of the Antonovich-Chetvertinsky estate with a park have been preserved.

Skidel is famous for its sugar plant, which is the first in Belarus. It should be noted that in this small city with a population of about ten thousand people there are fifteen enterprises.

The first stone castle built on the territory of Belarus is Lida. It was erected in 1323 by order of Prince Gedemin, and served a defensive function, and hostages were also detained and tortured there. In the castle, torture instruments of that time are open for viewing, and you can also visit inside the castle. In the summer, knightly tournaments and festivals are often organized, in which any visitor can take part.

Polotsk is the oldest city in Belarus

Polotsk is the oldest city in Belarus; the first mention of the city dates back to 862. When traveling to Belarus, it is worth stopping by this amazing city, located not far from Vitebsk.

There is a lot to see here, because there are many ancient buildings and monuments on an area of almost 40 km2. Among them stands out Saint Sophia Cathedral- the first Orthodox stone church built in Belarus. Also located here Spaso-Euphrosinievsky Monastery, which houses the relics of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk.

conclusions

Of course, these are not all the places in Belarus that are worth visiting. Every city has monuments or architecture that preserve history. When traveling by car, especially in the summer, you can fully enjoy the beauty of nature, and also see many new and interesting cities and towns that have not yet been visited.

On World Tourism Day, we have prepared five routes around Belarus: budget, one-day, accessible for traveling with children and ideal for autumn. The routes were compiled by the winners of the republican competition "Discover Belarus" of different years. These people traveled almost all of Belarus, submitted photographs against the backdrop of historical objects to the competition, and learned from their own experience what we should be proud of.

Minsk - Kossovo - Ruzhany - Synkovichi - Slonim - Zhirovichi - Minsk

Deputy Director for Economics and Finance of the Publishing House "Our Idea" Dmitry Kostyukevich with his wife and two children became laureates of the “Discover Belarus” competition in 2009, and in 2008 they took second place in the same competition. Over the course of two years, they visited more than 200 historical sites in the country. To travel by car, Dmitry suggests taking the route Minsk - Kossovo - Ruzhany - Synkovichi - Slonim - Zhirovichi - Minsk.

The round trip is about 527 kilometers and takes more than six hours. In autumn, it is best to go on such a trip at six in the morning in order to have time to see all the objects during daylight hours. In about three hours along the Moscow-Brest highway from Minsk you can get to the city of Ivatsevichi and there turn towards the city of Kossovo, and then the town of Merechevshchina. There are two sites worth visiting here: the Pusłowski Palace and the Tadeusz Kościuszko Estate Museum.

The palace was built by voivode Kazimir Puslovsky. Its construction began in 1838. The building was created in the neo-Gothic style and consists of 12 towers that symbolize the months of the year. They say that the building had a glass floor, and under it an aquarium with fish, guarded by a live lion.

After the Kastus Kalinowski uprising was suppressed in 1863, the palace was confiscated and given to Moscow aristocrats. After the First World War it was severely destroyed, then reconstructed and used as administrative premises. During World War II, the Nazis created a ghetto in the palace; at the end of the war, part of the building was destroyed by fire.

Not far from the palace is the estate of the leader of the national liberation movement, Tadeusz Kościuszko, which was restored in 2004.

The next destination of the trip is Ruzhany. At the beginning of the 17th century, the city of Ruzhany belonged to Lev Sapega and had Magdeburg Law. Not far from the city is the Ruzhany Palace, where the Sapieha family lived. Today there is restoration going on there. It is interesting that work on the restoration of the palace began under the Soviets. But then they began to lay out the outbuilding from ordinary brick, which is unacceptable for restoration. Then these structures were dismantled, the necessary bricks were made and the outbuilding was rebuilt.

After visiting this attraction, we head to the Zelvensky district to the Synkovichi Church. This is the defensive church of St. Michael the Archangel, built in the Belarusian Gothic style.

Another religious site on the route is the Holy Dormition Monastery in Zhirovichi. After visiting it, you can stop in Slonim near the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, built in the Rococo style. During the Second World War, the church was destroyed; in the early 90s of the 20th century, it began to be restored.

According to Dmitry, this route is ideal for a one-day trip. Firstly, all objects are reached by a well-paved road. Secondly, in one day you can see a large number of architectural monuments.

Minsk - Begoml - Dokshitsy - Glubokoe - Udelo - Mosar - Sharkovshchina - Germanovichi - Polotsk - Minsk

In 2010, the Vodnev family became the laureate of the competition. Irina Vodneva, head of the local history museum, a branch of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, says that they visited so many objects that they didn’t even count. To date, the family has visited about 300 places.

Irina realized from her own experience that before going somewhere abroad, you need to see the sights in your native Belarus.

In the photo on the top left is the Euphrosyne Monastery in Polotsk, on the top right is the Church of St. Anne in Mosar, on the bottom left is the Church of the Virgin Mary in Udelo, on the bottom right is the museum-estate of Yazep Drozdovich. Photo: Andrey Dybovsky, globus.tut.by.

As a one-day route, the interlocutor suggested the following: Minsk - Begoml - Dokshitsy - Glubokoe - Udelo - Mosar - Sharkovshchina - Germanovichi - Polotsk - Minsk.

The route takes more than 560 kilometers and eight hours of travel time. In the Dokshitsky district, Irina suggests visiting the village of Shunevka, where the memorial complex “Curse of Fascism” is located, in Glubokoe - the Trinity Church and the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin, churches in Udelo and Mosar, a church in Sharkovshchina and the Yazep Drozdovich Museum of Art and Ethnography in Germanovichi. Then see the shrines in Polotsk and return to Minsk.

Minsk - Kushlyany - Soly - Vornyany - Ostrovets - Mikhalishki - Gervyaty

Manager of the travel company "Viapol" Daria Leshchenko won the “Discover Belarus” competition as a student in 2011. The interlocutor is from the Beshenkovichi district of the Vitebsk region. She says that thanks to the competition she discovered not only Belarus, but also her small homeland, having visited all the historical sites of the region. As part of the competition, she visited 57 places.

Daria advises visiting Western Belarus as part of a one-day tour and driving along the route Minsk - Kushlyany - Soly - Vornyany - Ostrovets - Mikhalishki - Gervyaty - Minsk. This route is called "Ostrovets Around the World". The road takes more than 400 kilometers and almost seven hours of time.

In the photo on the left above is the Church of Our Lady Ruzhentsova in Soly, Smorgon district, Grodno region, on the top right - the Church of Saints Cosmas and Demyan in Ostrovets, on the bottom left - the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Mikhalishki, Ostrovets region, on the bottom right - the museum-estate of Frantishek Bogushevich in Kushlyany, Smorgon region . Photo: Andrey Dybovsky, globus.tut.by.

The remaining points of the route are devoted to religious themes. In Soly we stop at a church built in the postmodern style, in Ostrovets we visit a church whose appearance resembles a House of Culture. During the Soviet times, it was indeed converted into a House of Culture. There are many icons in this church that are considered miraculous. In Vornany there is a church of St. George, and in Mikhalishki - the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. And, perhaps, the pearl of the route is the Church of the Holy Trinity in the village of Gervyaty. If you're lucky, you can enjoy an organ concert there. There is a well-kept park around the church.

According to Daria, you can stop and have a snack along the route in Ostrovets. There are several inexpensive cafes there.

Minsk - Pershai - Ivenets - Vselyub - Potters - Belogruda - Murovanka - Vasilishki - Rozhanka - Minsk

Lawyer Dmitry Shevchuk won the “Discover Belarus” competition in 2012, visiting 59 historical sites. Dmitry prefers to travel around Belarus without the help of travel companies. He says that in this case the route and sights are better remembered.

He advises tourists to spend one day on the route Minsk - Pershai - Ivenets - Vselyub - Gonchary - Belogruda - Murovanka - Vasilishki - Starye Vasilishki - Shchuchin - Rozhanka - Minsk.

The route is about 600 kilometers and almost nine hours on the road. The destination is full of churches and cathedrals. In the village of Pershai, Volozhin district, there is the Church of St. Yuri, in the village of Ivenets there is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.

In the village of Vselyub, Novogrudok district, there is the Church of St. Casimir, in the village of Gonchary, Lida district, there is the Church of the Intercession, in the village of Belogruda, there is the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, in the village of Murovanka, Shchuchinsky district, there is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, in Starye Vasilishki and Rozhanka there are the churches of Saints Peter and Paul.

You can stop for lunch in Shchuchin.

I entrusted the choice of off-the-beaten-path places to a professional: the guide and co-founder of the service for finding excursions around Belarus Guides.by - Natalya Palchuk. The task was this: no Mir and Nesvizh! These places, of course, are iconic, but we want to go along little-known routes.

So, we present five non-trivial options for traveling around Belarus

For art historians: the Repin estate “Zdravnevo” near Vitebsk

Do you love art? Buy tickets to Vitebsk. Not far from this city is the estate of the artist Ilya Repin, where he lived for 8 years. The wooden house was built according to the sketches of Repin himself and the structure looks more like a fairy-tale tower.

During World War II, the estate was completely destroyed, but in the 80s, architects restored it according to old sketches. The main house now houses the Repin Museum, and the area around is a downright charming park.

To get there on your own: There are plenty of options to get to Vitebsk from Minsk. The estate itself is located 16 km from the city. You can get there by public transport: bus No. 26 to the village. Ruby, or bus 26A to the Dvina River Bridge, from where follow the sign for 1 km.

For tourists: church in Gervyaty

For those who love sightseeing and are ready to go on a bus tour around the whole Earth without hesitation, we recommend going to see the church in Gervyaty.

Have you heard of this? If the answer is no, then get ready to see the tallest and most beautiful church in Belarus. Surprisingly, for some reason this place is not very well known among Belarusians. But it’s better not to go specifically to the church, but to go as part of the “Ostrovets Around the World” excursion.

Its essence is that in one trip you can visit all the best Catholic churches in the Grodno region and see churches in Soly, Mikhalishki, Vornyany and Ostrovets.

Get there on your own: From Minsk by train Minsk-Gudogai (you need a receipt for payment for visiting the border zone, you can pay at Belarusbank). From Gudogay by bus to Ostrovets, from Ostrovets by bus to Giri.

For historians: the Museum of Old Believers in Vetka

Natalya Palchuk, our assistant guide, put the Museum of Old Believers in Vetka in first place in her personal rating of museums in Belarus. There is no other museum in our country with such a number of rare exhibits and immersion in the topic.

An even better option would be to first go to Gomel, see the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace, and then take the train and get to Vetka, which is very close to the city. Our guide guarantees that your excitement at the museum will know no bounds.

Photo vetka.by

To get there on your own: From Minsk to Gomel, from Gomel bus station by bus to Vetka

For gourmets: Korobchitsy complex near Grodno

How deliciously they serve authentic Belarusian dishes in Korobchitsy! Mmmm... But this agro-tourist complex is interesting not only for its restaurant. This is a real open-air museum-estate.

The complex is located near Grodno (the most beautiful city in Belarus, by the way). It’s worth starting from the city itself, and then taking a trip into nature to Korobchitsy. The territory of the complex is huge and stylized as an old manor of the 19th century. There is a restaurant with Belarusian cuisine, a knight's playground, workshops of folk craftsmen and a zoo. In general, there will be enough impressions for everyone!

To get there on your own: From Minsk to Grodno by bus, train or minibus. From the Grodno bus station there are buses from Grodno to the Korobchitsy estate, as well as a minibus.

For mystics: Turov and Turov crosses

Stone Turov crosses grow directly from the ground. Moreover, they grow - this is in the literal sense of the word. They are considered a miracle of Belarus, which scientists still cannot explain. Many articles have been written about the crosses, thousands of pilgrims come to them every month, and scientists study them. But more and more questions arise. So, look for miracles only here.

In addition, it is worth looking into the oldest Belarusian city of Turov and visiting the ancient castle, where the remains of wooden residential buildings and the foundation of a church from the 11th-12th centuries are preserved, as well as the former Uniate church, where the largest stone crosses are kept.

To get there on your own: From Minsk to Stolin/David-Gorodok/Zhitkovichi, and from these cities you can take commuter buses to Turov. Or by train from Minsk to Kalinkovichi, and then by suburban bus.

Have a useful and meaningful weekend!

I have nothing against the “branded” Belarusian castles, the beautiful towns of Mir and Nesvizh. I myself visit these places several times a year. However, at some point you want something completely different from traveling around Belarus. After all, most of the year here it is not as hot or as sunny as many would like. Therefore, you only need to create the atmosphere yourself. This is how our joint venture with the company appeared Samsung in Belarus the "Winter Attacks" project and the routes that we came up with and tested on ourselves. Today I want to remember each one, help the reader organize it on their own and, of course, once again review the best pictures from the illustrator of the project Anya Redko.

Braslav "Zen" - medicine for city residents

Summer is coming, and we visited the Braslav Lakes in winter. I wanted to see the lenses of the lakes in the snow, but it didn’t work out. But even in the classic Belarusian off-season with slush and dampness, this area looks fascinating. I would recommend this route to city dwellers to disconnect from civilization for a day, or better yet, two. There is every chance for this if you go to the village of Ustye, not far from Slobodka, and talk to the owner of the U Borisovich estate, Yura Zherko. You can arrange a walk-excursion through the unusually quiet corners of our lake district. If you wish and there are free places, you can stay in one of Yuri’s farmsteads.

Duration: 1-2 days (it’s better to go overnight, since the road from Minsk can take half a day and it will be difficult to relax, and there is air, birds, a bathhouse...)

Kilometers: from Minsk to Ustya 260 km one way (4 hours drive)

Budget: excursion around the region with Yura Zherko 200,000 BYR (about 10 USD) per person, accommodation in an agricultural estate, subject to availability, from 200,000 to 300,000 BYR (10-15 USD) per day per person.

Welcome to nomadic peoples in Belarusian

There is Borisov near Minsk. The town itself is interesting - it is connected with Napoleonic places, the cathedral in the city center is unusual, at the entrance from Minsk there is a super-modern architecture football arena. In general, the city combines, as they like to say, the past and the future. One Minsk travel agency not long ago began taking groups to Borisov - here enthusiasts set up an entire nomadic camp. Indians, shamans, Mongols, an enclosure with husky dogs that are fashionable today, yurts - all this is very interesting and unusual. The excursion will not be long, so you will have the opportunity to walk around old Borisov.

Duration: 1 day

Kilometers: from Minsk to the nomadic camp near Borisov in Dudinka 80 km (1.5 hours by car)

Budget: travel agency "Skarbonka Tour" offers an excursion to the "nomads" for 250,000 BYR (12.5 USD) per person in a group of 40 people

Exclusive site. The roads of Rakovsky smugglers

The most secret route site of the beginning of 2016 :) We know that today the topic of Rakov and the border between the USSR and Poland has become definitely fashionable. At first they wanted to contact a travel agency that makes animated excursions on the theme of “meat”, but quickly abandoned this idea in favor of... immersion in reality. We took a cool blogger who is passionate about this topic, ourselves, comfortable shoes and a good SUV, we didn’t forget the book by Sergei Pesetsky, cucumbers, sausage and chocolate, and experienced one day in the life of smugglers in our own skin. Complete immersion in the era!

Duration: 1 day (but what a day it was, mmm!)

Kilometers: they didn’t count and wouldn’t even count, because they wandered through the fields, walked from farm to farm... Rakov is 45 km from Minsk, or about 50 minutes by car.

Budget: not limited, but it will be necessary to buy something from the market and in the store in order to have a snack at the former border - you definitely won’t find a cafe nearby.

Unusual Slonim. Private collection museum and walks with a local resident

How many unusual museums do you know in Belarus? I don't think I'll hear a whole list here. I will recommend one address to everyone. In the city of Slonim there is a wonderful woman, Nina Mikhailovna Anishchik, who with her husband turned her personal collection into a home museum. I met her a couple of years ago and only now had the opportunity to visit the collectors. Impressive carriage! For budget travelers, the price will be a big plus - zero rubles and zero kopecks. The main thing is to arrange a visit in advance. And Slonim is good, especially if you take a local for a walk in advance.

Duration: 1 day

Kilometers: from Minsk to Slonim 200 km one way (about 2.5 hours by car)

Unusual museums of Minsk - one fascinating day

If the weather is bad outside, for example, you are in Minsk and don’t know how to entertain yourself, we will recommend repeating our route through the unusual museums of Minsk. You will spend very little money, but at the end of the day you will have a lot of impressions and things to talk about. Not far from the Corona shopping center, in a former bomb shelter, there is the Elemento Science Museum. In one of the Minsk courtyards not far from the Zheleznodorozhnikov cultural center there is an oceanography center. In addition to the exhibits themselves, the opportunity to independently perform the experiment or touch the artifacts, what is impressive in these places is the people who are very touching about their museums and their themes. In a word, we are impressed and recommend it.

Duration: 1 day

Kilometers: in the center of Minsk

Budget: for both museums, an adult needs to prepare 170,000 BYR (or 8.5 USD), children's tickets to both museums will cost 120,000 BYR (about 6 USD) per person.

The Belarusian swamp is just space!

Belarus is trying to position itself in different ways. In addition to potatoes, paddy wagons, tongue grass, rivers and lakes, we are also a country of steep swamps. It’s not for nothing that journalists have already taken the site three times to the Yelnya nature reserve, in the north of Belarus. We also went there in the off-season to ride a cool swamp vehicle and experience unusual feelings. They overtake you when you fry lard on a peninsula, on a lake that is located inside a huge swamp. And three hours earlier, you were driving a car through a noisy, polluted city... In general, there is no time to explain, read for yourself and repeat our adventures.

Duration: 1 day

Kilometers: from Minsk to Miory is about 220 km one way (3.5 hours drive, so you need to leave the capital early)

Budget: visit to the visitor center of the Yelnya reserve 20,000 BYR (or 1 USD) per person; A ride on a swamp vehicle around the perimeter of the swamp will cost 550,000 (about 27.5 USD) for three people for three hours.

These dump trucks don't fit into your head, by God! Excursion to BELAZ.

I’m writing this review and wondering whether to help or not, dear reader. Organizing an excursion to BELAZ is not so easy. On the website you will not find contacts for the “excursion department”; it is not very easy to get through to Zhodino - you must remember that this is a state-owned plant. However, I will recommend this quest to everyone. After all, you will be able to look with your own eyes at the record-breaking dump truck, which was included in the Guinness Book, and also “cut” through the factory quarry for ten minutes on a 130-ton truck (only with a driver, of course!). After such excursions, individual enterprises of the country take pride.

Duration: 1 day

Kilometers: from Minsk to Zhodino 60 km (about 1 hour by car)

Budget: the excursion will cost 70,000 BYR (about 3.5 USD) per adult and 30,000 (about 1.5 USD) per child. A ride on a dump truck with a driver will cost 750,000 BYR (about 37.5 USD) per person for 10 minutes (they said that a child can be placed on your lap and there will be no charge)

Sula - four letters not far from Minsk, and such a steep route

Few Minsk residents have heard about Nalibokskaya Pushcha, which is located directly near Minsk. You heard? We decided to look at the local beauty from the water, organizing a one-day river trip along the Sula River. Before this, we planned to stop by the Sula History Park “for five minutes,” but we ended up hanging there for a good half day. As a result, the first half of the day we learned about the history of the region on a cool interactive excursion. We spent the rest of the daylight swinging our oars, walking about ten kilometers along the river under the supervision of experienced instructors. A super busy day and a ready route for you.

Duration: 1 day

Kilometers: from Minsk to the history park "Royal Assembly Sula" is about 65 km (about 1 hour by car), and then choose your own starting point along the river.

Budget: an art tour of the Sula History Park will cost 170,000 BYR (about 8.5 USD) per person and will take approximately 2.5 hours of your time. Hiking professionals will organize an express rafting trip of 10-15 km for approximately 600,000 BYR (30 USD) per person.

We tried these routes for ourselves in the midst of the Belarusian off-season and had great fun. I am sure that with the onset of warmer days, the emotions received from such trips will be much greater.

I want to say a big thank you
