My experience of flying with RyanAir. How to buy RyanAir tickets and not overpay

It gained real shape after the signing on Friday of an agreement between the CEO of the air carrier and the management of the Kyiv and Lviv airports.

At the briefing that followed the signing ceremony, it was announced that Ryanair would operate flights to 10 destinations from Kyiv and five from Lviv, as well as flight prices: from €9.99 (according to other sources - from €19.99) .

These events provoked heated discussions on the Web - on various sites, Ukrainians are continually advised on how not to get into a mess and not overpay, the Vesti newspaper writes.

Per boarding pass– 15 euros

“At Ryanair, checking in a passenger for a flight at the airport is expensive - 45 euros. Therefore, do not forget to check-in online before departure, it's free,” advises Elena Ryazanova, a resident of Kiev, who once faced such a situation. “Also, if you haven’t printed out your boarding pass, then at the airport it will cost 15 euros,” Alexander Mironenko, editor of the avianews.com website, adds to Vesti.

At the same time, the choice of a seat in the cabin, for which the passenger will pay money, does not at all guarantee that he will sit on it. “I recently observed a situation at Ryanair - a girl sat in someone else's seat, which was bought by other passengers. And she did not respond to the requests of the steward to vacate the seat. It's good that there were two free ones, and the passengers were transplanted. But why pay money for a chair where you can’t sit,” says Kharkov resident Maria Kapustyan.

As for luggage, according to Mironenko, Ryanair has more liberal conditions for hand luggage compared to UIA. “They allow you to take a bag weighing up to 10 kg for free, plus a small briefcase or handbag. UIA has hand luggage only up to 7 kg plus a small item additionally,” Mironenko explained. It is also better to pay for the luggage you are going to check in online, because at the airport you will be charged plus 10 euros for each suitcase (an online bag up to 15 kg will cost from 10 to 40 euros, and up to 20 kg - 15-50 euros).

iPhone is more expensive

Experienced travelers and experts advise using a few tricks so as not to overpay for tickets. For example, according to the business leader of the travel startup TripMyDream Andrey Burenko, it is best to use metasearch engines that immediately give out the most profitable tickets.

“Look at flights on different dates: with a difference of several days, tickets can cost several times cheaper. It is not necessary to choose direct flights - the transfer can be short, and the flight is much cheaper. For many European destinations, it is more profitable to fly to a neighboring city or even a country. For example, tickets to Venice cost more than 300 euros, and to Milan - just over 100 euros in both directions. From Milan, in just 1-2 hours, you can get to Venice by Italian train, a ticket for which will cost about 30 euros, ”Burenko clarifies.

Also, do not buy tickets online, accessing sites from expensive gadgets. “Some airline ticketing sites track which gadget you are trying to buy a ticket from. If it is an iPhone, then you may be charged an additional fee of $10. And even if you often look at prices, this is also fixed and may affect the final price, ”Alexander Mironenko explained to Vesti.

Those who fly often claim that there is another trick. “Sometimes this works: if you go to the airline’s website and change the country (indicate that you are from Italy, not Ukraine), then prices can be cheaper for the same flights,” advises Nikita.

I wrote too.

Let's move on to other important details.

Ticket, check-in and boarding pass

After purchasing your ticket, you will receive a booking confirmation. This is not a ticket. With him you will not fly away, but in

it contains important information.
The obligatory next step is registration (check-in). RyanAir, like many other low-cost airlines, prefers

web check-in. It is cheaper for them and more convenient for us.
Online check-in can be completed 15 days and up to 4 hours before departure by going to the airline's website. And this

must be done in advance, not at the airport. And be sure to print your boarding pass.

(boarding pass). If you check in at the airport and print a ticket, you will be ripped off 30-40 euros, what

often times more expensive than the ticket itself.
So before heading to the airport, make sure you check in and print out your boarding pass.
Another nuance that your boarding pass will remind you of - passport/visa check. Since you

you are certainly not a citizen of the European Union or another civilized country, you will be asked

check your passport before boarding the plane.
To do this, you need to find the information / registration desk and make this passport / visa check, i.e.

get a stamp on your boarding pass.

Baggage

The most frequently asked question is how much of what can you do?
According to the rules, you can take hand luggage something 55x40x20 cm and weighing 10kg for free.
Hand luggage is what you take with you into the cabin of the aircraft, and do not hand it over to the luggage compartment. And

RyanAir only requires you to carry one piece of hand luggage. No more. All small bags

and bags must be packed in one piece. Otherwise, they will not let you in or ask you to leave them behind.
Everything else is paid an additional 20 euros.
But almost always the dimensions are checked by eye. If you already have an oversized backpack, you

of course they will ask you to put it in a test box.
But if everything is in order with hand luggage, then it will not even be put on the scales. Last time my backpack

weighed 12.5 kg. Everyone didn't care.
As hand luggage, it is desirable to have something more flexible, plastic, for example, a bag or a backpack, and not

hard suitcase. I personally witnessed how one man was ordered to check in his suitcase for

wheels and pay ~30 euros for the fact that the wheels of his small suitcase did not fit in the test

box.

Of my ~15 flights, as far as I remember, only at a small airport in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz they checked

the weight. And not only weight. Very carefully scanned, sorted out the backpack. Young airport, young

European country, a thousand times reinsured. It's worse than in Russia.
In extreme cases, there is a popular practice of putting on a maximum of clothing and stuffing all sorts of

heavy little things in your pockets.
In large general, rather than low-cost airports with dimensions, it is even easier. Because security control is general, then

You don't have to pack everything in one bag. And then, when landing, the excess can be neatly hidden under

jacket.
Food can be carried without problems, but not liquids.

Landing

RyanAir likes to start boarding very early. Therefore, arriving later than 30 minutes before departure will result in

plane failure. And this is sad. A new ticket can cost you 5 times more.
So in the case of RyanAir, it's really better to arrive early. On my flight Bologna-Dusseldorf for 30

minutes before departure, there was no one at the gate. So being at the airport always be near your

gate. No one will look for you, unlike conventional airlines. This is a low cost.
The last three times I flew in the front row. And even if I'm not the first to get on the plane, these places

often free.
best places, I think, in the plane and no.
Firstly, close to the exit in the event of, for example, an accident. Yes, and in principle it is convenient to enter and exit, not

have to push through this narrow passage.
Secondly, your legs will not rest against the front seat due to the lack of it. So feel free

stretch your limbs in all directions. Basically, RyanAir flights do not fill up to the end, so on

there may not be anyone in the next seat.
Thirdly, there is a unique opportunity to see what the onboard staff is actually doing.

A fragile girl looks especially cute, closing the huge door of the plane with a sharp jerk.
In fact, it is interesting that a rare person chooses seats in front. Everyone immediately burst into the center of the plane.

Perhaps the habit of seeing inaccessible business class seats in the forefront is affecting.

Thanks to the love of early boarding mentioned above, RyanAir is very rarely late. Quite the opposite -

arrive earlier.
I had one canceled flight due to crazy fog in December in Poland. As

compensation, we were offered to return the money or replace the ticket for another time / another city.

Ticket prices

RyanAir almost always has sales for the current and next month. That is, buy a ticket

on the action for two weeks is very real. The ticket price for the promotion ranges from 5 to 15 euros per one

side. On less popular or overly popular popular destinations promotions are not valid, so the prices

corresponding - 50-100 euros.
I try to fly on promotions and fly with transfers.

All of the above applies to many low-cost airlines with some margin of error.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I will update this FAQ.

Ryanair is an airline founded in 1985, NASDAQ code - RYAAY, LSE - RYA, ISE - 12724. It is the largest low-cost airline company in the world.

The first aircraft to fly was a 14-seat Embraer. London - Waterford route. Since the mid 90s. Ryanair began to develop actively, the fleet increased to 45 new Boeing 737 aircraft, which helped to master the market of the entire European continent.

In 2001, the airline's own official website was launched. Today, the air carrier has a fleet of more than 400 aircraft, transports tens of millions of people a year, constantly increasing this figure.

The most popular and frequent flight of the company is the flight London - Dublin. However, with around 1,600 flights to 180 destinations across Europe and Morocco every day, Ryanair is able to offer its passengers some of the cheapest fares of its competitors due to its severely limited range of services and the use of remote airports that charge lower fees.

Additional Information! The air carrier has been awarded three out of five stars by the reputable SkyTrax rating agency.

If a Ryanair flight is planned, the official website www.ryanair.com will offer detailed information about all the company's services, including booking airline tickets, check-in, meals on board and other services. Ryanair does not have an official website in Russian. For the convenience of our compatriots, there are several unofficial Russian versions of the Ryanair airline website www.ryanair-ru.com and www.ryanair.com.ru. They are mostly informational, and the entire range of airline services is available only to registered users on the official website.

Carrying out flights exclusively within Europe, the airline has its headquarters in Dublin, the Irish capital, there are no Ryanair offices in Moscow.

General contact phone number of the company: +353-1-248-08-56.

Flight check-in rules

Renner provides its clients with a wide range of check-in services:

  • Classic check-in opens 2 hours before departure at the counters indicated on electronic scoreboard in the airport departure hall.
  • Use of self check-in counters installed in most international airports Europe.
  • Online check-in is available 48 hours before departure on the official website at https://www.ryanair.com/gb/en/ for registered users. For the convenience of customers, the site provides step-by-step instruction allowing you to register as soon as possible.
  • Registration is available via a mobile device by installing an adapted application “Runeir.
  • At early booking air ticket, paid check-in for a flight with a priority right to choose a seat in the cabin is possible. Check-in is available 60 days before departure, its cost is from 8 euros for a one-way flight and from 12 euros for round-trip flights. Pre-registration fees may vary depending on season and destination.*

Due to the popularity of the airline, choosing the desired seat in the cabin during check-in at the airport is problematic.

Rules for the performance of connecting flights. Airline liability

Rayner, being a low-cost airline, organizes mostly direct air flights, "from point to point". But due to the large daily number of flights, passengers can independently choose their transfer route with a connection at the airport of arrival of the first flight. In this case, the client assumes full responsibility for the transit flight that failed for some reason.

Since mid-2017, Rineir has started offering connection services on its own flights. There are still few such destinations, their availability must be specified when booking tickets, but in this case, a convenient function of through baggage check-in is available, which will automatically proceed to the passenger's final destination.

In the event of a disruption to the schedule during the connection due to the fault of Ryanair, in particular, the delay of the previous flight, the passenger has the right to rebook tickets for the next flight free of charge, and in the event that schedule changes involve a long wait, the airline reserves hotel rooms and provides customers with free hot food.

Baggage allowance

Important! Due to the fact that Ryanair is a budget airline, there is no division into classes in it. When purchasing a standard ticket, all passengers are entitled to carry 1 piece of baggage weighing up to 20 kg. The exception is additional service packages for different categories of travelers. In particular, when purchasing the Family Plus package, passengers can check in 2 pieces of baggage of 20 kg each. In case of overweight, the passenger will either be denied check-in of baggage, or an additional payment of 50 euros will be required, depending on the direction of flight.*

The following restrictions apply to carry-on baggage on board an aircraft:

  • When purchasing a standard ticket, the airline allows for transportation in the cabin 1 bag with dimensions of no more than 35 × 20 × 20 cm, which makes it easy to place it under the seat in front of the seat. For any additional piece of hand luggage, but not exceeding 10 kg in weight and with dimensions not exceeding 55 × 40 × 20, you will have to pay extra from 50 euros.*
  • When purchasing an additional Priority service, it is allowed to carry a second bag in the cabin without surcharges. This service is provided for different categories of passengers and includes Family Plus and Flexi Plus fares starting from 24 euros.*

If any goods are purchased from duty-free shops at the airport, they are allowed on board without restriction, as long as their dimensions are within the allowed dimensions.

For passengers with children under 2 years old, Ruanair allows the carriage of one fully collapsible stroller and a baby cot in hand luggage. At the same time, the stroller is handed over to the crew upon boarding the aircraft, and is issued back at the baggage claim belt at the end of the flight. Additional baggage for an infant is subject to a charge of EUR 10 per seat.*

When purchasing the Family Plus package, the allowable weight of hand luggage for a child is increased by 5 kg.

Providing meals on board Ryanair

Any food, drinks and even water offered on board are paid separately, and bringing and consuming your own food on the plane is officially prohibited by Ryanair policy.

The passenger can choose a hot lunch or a light snack from the menu provided by the crew. Due to relatively short flights, most often passengers are offered a menu from the fast food category - panini or burgers, 5.5 euros, sandwiches, 4.5 euros with french fries 2.5 euros and other fast food items. The cost of drinks varies from 1 to 5 euros. Thus, a light lunch will cost 10 - 12 euros per passenger.*

Privileges for passengers with children

Until recently, Rainair did not provide families with children with priority boarding in adjacent seats, but since 2011 this service became mandatory for the safety of passengers. But to prevent misunderstandings, representatives of the airline recommend purchasing the Family Plus package for families with children, since the availability of this service guarantees landing on adjacent seats for parents and children in the cabin.

For passengers with babies, as well as when purchasing the Family Plus option, there is a service for heating baby bottles if necessary.

For parents with children under 2 years of age who do not occupy a separate seat, the crew provides an additional seat belt for takeoff and landing.

Rinair does not provide specialized baby food, however, you can take the necessary food for the child with you on board the aircraft. In addition, in the proposed list of dishes, you can choose and purchase some items suitable for a child.

Ryanair aircraft fleet

As mentioned above, Ryanair has a huge fleet of over 400 aircraft. All aircraft are Boeing 737s of various modifications. Due to the large number of flights and the rapid deterioration of aircraft, the airline frequently renews its fleet. More than 100 aircraft are constantly on the list of new aircraft orders for the airline. The average age of continuous operation of the aircraft in the "Rinier" does not exceed 4.5 - 5 years. Renair is among the top ten airlines with the most frequently updated fleet of aircraft.

Almost all aircraft are equipped in the same way without dividing cabins into classes, and the main priority of the interior is the number seats to reduce airfare.

Ryanair base airport

The main transport hub for Rainair is Stansted Airport, located 48 km from London and having one runway. Iato airport code STN. On the territory of the air harbor for the comfort of departing and transit passengers The following amenities and activities are offered:

  • Duty free shops.
  • Cafes and restaurants with various types European cuisine.
  • Rooms for performing religious rites and reading prayers.
  • Dedicated area for smokers.
  • Playground for recreation with children.
  • Shower rooms for personal hygiene.
  • Standard airport services - left-luggage offices, currency exchange offices, ATMs, help desk, pharmacy.

The airport has a full range of services to ensure a comfortable waiting for a flight for passengers.

Basic airline fares

Booking tickets is possible on the official website of Ryanair at the link https://www.ryanair.com/gb/en/. The airline "Rainer" focuses mainly on independent travelers in Europe, so the determining factor for the flight is the price.

Airline fares are offered from €10 for a one-way ticket and go up to a maximum of €120, mostly for holiday destinations during the high season. The average price of an air flight in Europe for 1 adult is 40 - 60 euros.*

The cost of an economy ticket does not include luggage, which explains the low price of the trip itself. If it is necessary to purchase additional options for baggage check-in, transfer from the hotel, etc., it is recommended to issue priority packages when buying a ticket, since the surcharge for the corresponding services directly at the airport is at least 2 times higher.*

By default, Irish Airlines offers a Regular fare, non-refundable, without any services. With an additional payment for the Plus fare (about 50 euros), the passenger has the opportunity to return the ticket, check in 1 piece of baggage and priority seat selection, and by paying another 70 - 90 euros for the Business Plus fare, the client gets the right to “shift” the departure time by up to 2 days relative to departure date.*

Map of the main routes of Ryan air

As a European low-cost airline, Renair flies to 1,600 destinations at 180 European airports in more than 25 countries. Most often, these are airports located at a distance, 50 km or more from settlements to which they belong. So, Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, which belongs to the German Frankfurt, is located 140 km from the city itself.

In countries former USSR the airline's planes use the airports of Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn, which is quite convenient for residents Kaliningrad region. Rianair does not yet operate regular flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Air carrier bonus programs

Due to low-cost air fares, Irish Airways has a meager set of privileges for passengers. Launched in 2016 bonus program My Ryanair. Members of this program have the following options:

  • When promotions appear, discounted ticket sales open 24 hours earlier for program members only.
  • Once a year, frequent flyers can receive one free flight(average 1 free ticket for every 12 standard tickets).

Ryan Air also provides significant discounts on promotional codes on vouchers issued to passengers by partner companies.

Promotions and discounts Ryan air

The airline from time to time offers promotions for the purchase of air tickets to various destinations. All users registered on the Ranair official website, as well as participants of the bonus program, will receive priority information about these promotions.

Promotions and discounts are valid for most flights and depend primarily on the seasonal popularity of the destination.

Raynair works as "transparently" as possible in relation to its customers, not trying to hide in the cost of its air tickets additional service, about which passengers may not even guess and never use it throughout the flight. The founders created a rapidly developing company that fully justifies its name as a "low-cost airline", guaranteeing passengers the cheapest and safest flight to anywhere in Europe.

*Prices are current as of June 2018.

Thanks to low prices for tickets offered by European low-cost airlines, you can easily make an assembly with a visit to several European countries at once for absolutely ridiculous money! But low-cost airline flights have their own characteristics - they remain cheap only if you clearly know their rules and act according to them.

Our first guide on how to buy cheap ticket at the Ryanair low-cost airline (flies all over Europe, as well as to Morocco and Israel) and do not overpay for additional services! There is a lot of information, but it will seem difficult only for the first time! Then you’ll get used to it, because Ryanair’s ticket prices are the cheapest in Europe and it’s hard to resist this fact!)

Where to fly with Ryanair

hand luggage

You can take one bag with dimensions of 40 cm x 20 cm x 25 cm with you free of charge on the plane. With the paid Priority & 2 Cabin Bags service (from 6 euros), you can additionally take 1 suitcase up to 10 kg as hand luggage.

If a child under 2 years old is flying with you without providing a seat, an additional bag with children's things weighing up to 5 kg is allowed as hand luggage.

If hand luggage does not correspond to the dimensions, weight and quantity, then you may be denied boarding the plane or placing hand luggage in the cargo hold of the aircraft for a substantial surcharge!

All current baggage requirements at Ryanair

Baggage

Baggage is paid. To fly cheaply, it is better to do without luggage at all, travel with free hand luggage of a set weight and size.

If you still need luggage, it is more profitable to pay for it immediately along with the flight. Paying later or at the airport will be much more expensive! You can bring up to three luggage places weighing 10-20 kg. The maximum size of checked baggage must not exceed 119cm x 119cm x 81cm. Overweight is subject to an additional fee. The cost of luggage depends on the season and route, you can roughly ask the price, the exact cost will be displayed when booking tickets directly

Carefully note the type of baggage you need for each leg of the journey, because when you select baggage for the “outward” flight, the system will automatically add the same baggage option for the return flight!

Additional paid services

When you add additional paid services, flying with RyanAir ceases to be a budget one, so think carefully about what you really need and what you can do without:

Reserve Seats(by default, seats on the plane will be randomly assigned at check-in, but for an additional fee (from 4 euros / person per segment) you can book specific seats and still get benefits - the whole family or friends are nearby, comfortable seats, the possibility of online check-in for 60 days prior to departure). Note that if you are traveling with children from 2 to 12 years old, this option is required (for children, the service is free);

Get Insurance(additional medical insurance and insurance in case of ticket return) - refuse,

Priority & 2 cabin bags(priority boarding) - if necessary. The option allows you to take on board 2 pieces of free hand luggage ().

Fast track(quick security control) - refuse,

rent a car, book a hotel - refuse,

Parking(parking) - only if necessary,

airport transfer(transfer from the airport) – if the airport is far from the city, it may be profitable to buy a transfer – check the prices in advance,

non-standard baggage(Baby Equipment, Sport Equipment and Music Equipment) - only when needed.

The cost of additional services can be viewed directly at the time of ticketing or in advance. If you need any additional services, it is better to buy them immediately when you issue tickets - it's cheaper!

Credit card fee

When paying for tickets with a debit card, there is no fee, when paying with a credit card, a fee of 2% of the purchase amount is charged. However, many Russian bank debit cards are defined as credit cards, so be prepared for a 2% fee!

Currency conversion when paying

After entering all the information about bank card to the right of them, an inscription may appear: “Your debit / credit card will now be charged xxxxx RUB (or $) (xxxx EUR). Click here for more information on our guaranteed exchange rate (this mostly happens with MasterCard Standard cards). The airline offers to issue an invoice for paying for tickets not in euros, but in rubles or dollars, but the conversion takes place at an unfavorable rate. You can refuse as follows: click on "Click here" in the inscription that appears and in the window that opens, REMOVE the conversion mark.

Check-in for a Ryanair flight online

Starting from 48 hours and up to 2 hours before departure, you must check in for the flight on the website and print out your boarding pass (Boarding Card) on A4 paper (to complete the visa check procedure at the airport (see next paragraph)). Otherwise, check-in at the airport will cost you 45 euros / person, and printing a boarding pass at the check-in counter will cost you 15 euros / person!

Do not forget that you need to check in for the return flight separately!

How to print a ticket if you are already on a trip and not at home? Ask your hotel or hostel for an email address where you can send your boarding pass to print. And you can also use the additional paid service of booking a seat on the plane (from 4 euros / person for each segment when purchased at the same time with a ticket), which allows you to check in for a flight 60 days before departure - print your boarding pass at home!

Visa Check procedure

At the airport, before departure, at the airline counter, you must go through the procedure for checking documents and visas (Visa Check), your printed boarding pass will be stamped accordingly. According to Ryanair rules, this is always mandatory for all non-EU / EEA citizens, including citizens of the Russian Federation / CIS.

Recently, they have stopped requiring Visa Check on a number of domestic flights in Europe. But still, if possible, take a printed boarding pass with you

Ticket changes

Always carefully fill in the details of passengers when buying tickets, because. all subsequent changes are paid and very expensive. It's often cheaper to buy a new ticket! Changing a flight from 30 euros if you do it yourself on the airline's website (even more expensive at the airport). Name change on the ticket - 110 euros on the website and 160 euros at the airport.

| Ryanair Registration | Question answer

The European low-cost airline Ryanair announced that from November 1, 2018, the rules for carrying baggage and hand luggage will change. More about the changes:

Ryanair baggage allowance - changes from November 1, 2018

To eliminate delays in boarding the aircraft and delays in baggage acceptance, the airline introduces new rules for the carriage of hand luggage from November 1, 2018 and free baggage. The rules will be applied in practice from November 1, 2018, but in terms of buying tickets and paying for luggage, they came into force on September 1, 2018.

1. Baggage dimensions - changes

1.1. The size of the carry-on bag that you can take with you to the aircraft cabin for free has been increased:

  • It was: 35 x 20 x 20 cm
  • became: 40 x 20 x 25 cm

The bag must fit under the seat in the cabin of the aircraft.

1.2. Almost doubled the size of a small bag (backpack), which you can also take with you:

  • It was: 35 x 20 x 20 cm
  • became: 42 x 20 x 30 cm

If the free hand luggage does not fit within the dimensions set by the company, it will be placed in the luggage compartment of the aircraft, and the passenger will have to pay an extra 25 euros for baggage. The same amount - 25 euros for luggage will have to be paid if you have not booked free luggage weighing 10 kg online in advance. The bag will have to be checked in the luggage compartment.

2. Free Baggage Rules - Changes

It was: you can carry 1 large (wheeled) bag 55 x 40 x 20 and 1 small bag - 35 x 20 x 20 for free.

The bag must be checked in at the airport before boarding the flight.

If non-priority clients want to check in one more suitcase on wheels weighing up to 10 kg, they need to pay for another such service at the time of booking the ticket: 10 kg for € / £ 8. At the airport, such luggage will cost a little more: 10 kg for € /£10.

Boarding pass for Ryanair flights

According to the rules airlines Ryanair, the passenger himself is obliged to print out the boarding pass, this must be done before going to the airport. For those who would not like to pay for choosing a seat, the time limit for printing a boarding pass has been reduced by 2 times since June 11 - up to 2 days!

If at this time there are difficulties with accessing the Internet, you can use the services of the hotel closest to your location - as a rule, the hotel administration helps both its guests and outsiders who turn to them for this kind of help in this.

If there is an online check-in for a flight, but there is no boarding pass (forgotten, could not print), the passenger will have to pay an additional Ryanair fine for not having a boarding pass in the amount of 45 euros.

If during the journey the passenger is not able to print the boarding pass for the return flight, he/she should make an early (paid) check-in. This type of check-in is available 60 days before departure.

Boarding of passengers on Ryanair aircraft ends 40 minutes before departure.
