Rules for air transportation of baggage. New rules and regulations for carrying baggage and hand luggage on an airplane

What can you take on a plane?

The aircraft has a certain carrying capacity, so baggage weight limits are limited. Norms hand luggage They are also installed in order to freely place things on luggage racks or under the seat. Otherwise, things may interfere with the evacuation of passengers.

Hand luggage is checked in simultaneously with the passenger's check-in for the flight. Check-in at any airport usually begins 2-3 hours before departure and ends 1 hour to 40 minutes before departure. You can find out for sure when check-in for your flight begins and ends at the representative office of the airline from which you purchased your ticket. To plan your trip more accurately, check out how to get to your departure airport on.

Hand luggage- these are things that you can take with you into the cabin. The weight limit for hand luggage is determined by the airline. The weight limit for hand luggage can vary from 5 to 10 kg. Hand luggage may not be included in the ticket fare - it may be charged.

Regardless of whether hand luggage is included in the fare or not, on flights Russian airlines You can take the following items with you into the aircraft cabin:

  • handbag or briefcase;
  • bouquet of flowers;
  • outerwear;
  • baby food for the child during the flight;
  • suit in a suitcase;
  • a cradle/folding stroller when transporting a child (use of the stroller is possible up to the aircraft ramp, then the stroller is transferred for transportation in the luggage and cargo compartment);
  • crutches, a folding wheelchair, having dimensions that allow them to be safely placed in the aircraft cabin on a shelf above the passenger seat or under the seat in front of the passenger seat (when transporting a passenger with limited mobility).

Pobeda Airlines allows the carriage of items from this list if their dimensions and hand luggage in total do not exceed the dimensions of 36x30x27 centimeters. If hand luggage exceeds the specified dimensions, it can be checked in as checked baggage for an additional fee.

The bag that you take with you into the cabin (carry-on luggage) should not contain knives, scissors (even manicure scissors), medications (except for vital drugs), inhalers, aerosols, cosmetics(creams, gels).

Baggage allowance

Baggage- these are the things you check in when checking in for your flight. They will fly in the luggage compartment. Airlines have different weight and number of pieces of luggage. Some airlines have fares where baggage is not included in the ticket price and is paid separately as an additional service. These data are indicated in the fare rules of the air ticket. Also, when purchasing an air ticket on Tutu.ru, you can install a filter and select either only tickets with allowed luggage, or without luggage.

If the baggage allowance established by the airline is exceeded, for example, baggage weighs 30 kg with a limit of 23 kg, then such baggage is considered excess baggage and you will need to pay extra for it. There are tariffs that limit luggage not only by weight, but also by space - that is, one person can carry one bag or suitcase for free. If your luggage meets the weight limit but is packed in two bags, you will have to pay for an additional piece of luggage.

Payment rules are set by the airline; most often, you can pay for luggage or hand luggage online on the airline’s website or by calling its contact center, as well as at the airport.

Baby on a plane

A baby on an airplane is also a passenger, so some airlines allow you to carry 10 kg of baggage with him free of charge. All baby bassinets or car seats of any size when transporting a child under 2 years of age, as well as strollers when transporting a child under 11 years of age (inclusive) are carried free of charge in addition to the standard baggage allowance or in addition to hand luggage. The folding stroller can be checked in as luggage.

Carriage of sports equipment

If you are flying with sports equipment (skis, snowboard, surfboard, bicycle), then you must inform the airline about this. Check the conditions for transporting sports equipment on your airline's website. Call or write to representatives of the airline you plan to fly with. When booking an air ticket on our website, we can request for you the service of transporting sports equipment (skiing equipment, golf equipment, surfing, diving, paragliding, bicycle).

It is also necessary to indicate the passenger for whom the service is needed, the dimensions length*width*height and the total weight of the equipment.

The airline will need 24 hours to respond. We will definitely inform you about confirmation or refusal of this service.

Transporting devices with lithium and lithium-ion batteries

Lithium batteries are used in phones, laptops, e-cigarettes and other electrical devices. DO YOU KNOW THEY ARE DANGEROUS? If the lithium battery is damaged or short circuited, a fire may start.

Do not place lithium batteries in checked baggage. Lithium and lithium ion batteries must be carried in carry-on baggage only.

During flight, batteries in devices such as laptops, cameras, movie cameras, mobile phones, etc. must be placed in the "Off" mode. Measures should also be taken to ensure that such devices, when placed in checked baggage, do not have batteries that spontaneously activate.

Vehicles powered by lithium or lithium ion batteries are classified as "dangerous goods" and require special attention and special requirements for transport by air.

Samples of personal vehicles using lithium and lithium-ion batteries

Recently, small-sized personal vehicles such as hoverboards, mini-Segways, airwheels, electric unicycles (solowheel), varieties of scooters (balance wheel), etc. have become increasingly popular. Transportation of the specified personal vehicles powered by lithium or lithium ion batteries is allowed on BELAVIA flights in checked baggage or in hand luggage only by prior agreement with the airline and subject to strict compliance with the following conditions :

  • The passenger must have a passport of the electric mobile device or its technical description;
  • the battery driving the electric mobility device must be factory-produced with a capacity of no more than 160 W/h;
  • the body of the electric mobile device without battery must be placed in a protective case and checked in for carriage as checked baggage;
  • the total number of batteries carried by one passenger in hand luggage should not exceed 2 (two).

Belavia Airlines reserves the right, in case of violation of these requirements, to refuse transportation or remove from transportation an already accepted small-sized personal vehicle and in this case does not bear responsibility for its safety.

Transportation of vehicles used for medical reasons or due to disability (wheelchairs and other types of personal vehicles for persons with limited mobility) on the airline's aircraft is carried out only in luggage compartments .

Samples different types wheelchairs

  • Manual wheelchairs
  • Electric wheelchairs
  • Sports wheelchairs

Transportation of all types of personal vehicles used for medical reasons or due to disability is subject to the following conditions:

  • it is necessary to first agree with the airline on the terms of such transportation and prepare the vehicle in accordance with the instructions of the carrier;
  • If such personal mobility device is powered by one (1) lithium or lithium-ion battery, then the battery power on such device must not exceed 300 Wh;
  • if the device contains 2 batteries, then the power of each of them should not exceed 160 Wh;
  • Additionally, it is allowed to transport 2 spare batteries with a power of no more than 160 Wh or one spare battery with a power of up to 300 Wh. Spare batteries are only allowed in hand luggage;
  • the battery must be completely disconnected from the electrical device;
  • the disconnected battery must be completely discharged, placed in a plastic bag and placed in hand luggage for transportation in the passenger cabin of the aircraft;
  • If the battery cannot be disconnected from the vehicle, it should be placed in the “Off” mode and the terminals should be wrapped with insulating tape.

REMEMBER! NO BATTERY CAN BE ACCEPTED FOR TRANSPORTATION IF IT DOES NOT HAVE THE MANUFACTURER'S MARKING ON IT!

All spare battery terminals must be short-circuit protected. To do this, the batteries must be in the original factory packaging or their terminals are wrapped with insulating tape or each battery is placed in a separate plastic bag.

The carriage of lithium batteries on an aircraft depends on the configuration of the lithium battery or its watt-hour rating (for rechargeables) or lithium content (for non-rechargeables).

Use the following table to determine if your battery can be accepted for transport:

Power in Wh or Li contentCarriage in hand luggageCarriage in checked baggageAirline permission required

>160 WhMust be declared for carriage as cargo in accordance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.Must be declared for carriage as cargo in accordance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

To convert amp hours to watt hours, multiply the amp hours by the voltage.

Types of lithium batteries

Small lithium batteries and batteries, which include batteries for mobile phones, watches, MP3 players and most original laptop batteries. The maximum power of such batteries is 100 watt-hours.

Medium lithium batteries and batteries, which include larger batteries and batteries. For example, extended life batteries for laptops, as well as batteries used for professional audio and video equipment. Such lithium batteries have a capacity of 100 to 160 watt-hours.

Large lithium batteries and cells are primarily batteries that are used in industry. The large rechargeable battery has a capacity of over 160 watt-hours. Large batteries can be found in electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as in mobility aids and scooters.

Note: Other available battery types, such as Ni-Cad and alkaline, may be carried in both checked and carry-on baggage, provided they are properly protected from possible short circuits.

Today, air travel is the most convenient and fastest way to travel. However, even those who fly not for the first time often face a number of certain questions. Some of the most common ones are related to the transportation of baggage - how many kg of baggage can be carried on a plane for free, what is considered acceptable and how many kilograms can be taken on a plane per person.

Before boarding the plane, any passenger will have to go through a baggage weighing procedure. Only a few things that a person takes with him on board an airplane are not taken into account - a handbag, a phone, a laptop, crutches, a wheelchair and a cane. Each company has its own established rules, and if the luggage weighs more than a certain amount, the passenger will have to pay according to the tariffs.

How much is one person allowed to carry for free?

Most airlines charge the following rates for transportation: free luggage:

  • Economy class passengers can carry up to 20 kg;
  • Business class passengers up to 30 kg;
  • When purchasing a first class ticket, you are allowed to carry up to 40 kg.

Typically this rate is calculated from total weight luggage and hand luggage. But some companies do not count carry-on luggage when calculating, so you should check with your carrier about the rules. It is worth remembering that these are average values, the norm is set by a specific company.

You should also take into account the length of your luggage. For economy class passengers, baggage should not exceed 158 cm, and for first and business class no more than 203 cm.

In addition to weight control in airlines, there is also an assessment of baggage by the number of pieces. Another important condition is the choice of class when purchasing a ticket, since the more expensive and higher the gradation of the class, the more favorable the conditions for transporting things.

To successfully transport your own belongings, you should consider some rules:

  1. Baggage weight cannot be added together. Let’s say two people are flying and carrying luggage in the amount of two bags, the norm should not exceed 32 kg, one bag weighs 35 kg and the other 30, for the first bag you will have to pay extra at the rate for 3 extra kilos.
  2. The wheels, pockets, and other accessories of the bag itself must be taken into account when determining the weight, not just what is in it.
  3. The transportation of non-standard luggage must be coordinated with the airline; some things are allowed to be carried for a fee, some are free. For example, skis or a bicycle are usually calculated as one place without taking into account weight and length.

The amount of free baggage allowed in different airlines

Transaero

The Transaero company uses the following principles for determining the weight of luggage: the first group - all flights other than transatlantic, the second group - it includes destinations to America, Brazil and Canada. In the first group, up to 20 kg of free baggage can be carried by passengers with a Tourist ticket, up to 25 kg can be carried on an airplane in Economy class, up to 35 kg can be carried free of charge with a business ticket, and up to 45 kg when purchasing an imperial class ticket.

If we talk about the second group, then there are two free luggage spaces and weighing no more than 25 kg for tourist and economy classes; for business class tickets there are two pieces of luggage weighing 32 kg each; imperial class passengers are allowed to carry three pieces of luggage weighing no more than 32 kg each.

If the luggage exceeds the established number of kilograms, then the excess fee will be from 100 to 150 dollars depending on the weight.

If you are going to fly on S7 flights, you must take into account the following rules: economy class passengers are allowed to carry hand luggage weighing no more than 10 kg, paid luggage - no more than 23 kg, in flexible economy class hand luggage should not exceed 10 kg, and Baggage allowance is limited to 23 kg.

When purchasing a ticket for basic class, you are allowed to take two pieces of hand luggage with a total weight of no more than 15 kg, and you are also provided with one free piece of baggage weighing no more than 32 kg.

If the weight of one piece of luggage exceeds 23 kg, then the passenger will have to pay an average of 25 euros for excess weight, and if the luggage weighs more than 32 kg, then you will need to pay about 50 euros.

Aeroflot

Aeroflot has established the following baggage allowances: when purchasing a business class ticket, you can carry bags on the plane in the amount of 2 pieces of luggage not exceeding 32 kg each, comfort class and premium tickets provide two pieces of luggage not exceeding 23 kg each, and in economy tickets It is allowed to carry 1 piece of no more than 23 kg.

On Aeroflot planes you can take hand luggage weighing 10 kg for economy class passengers and 15 kg for business class passengers.

If, when transporting baggage with Aeroflot, the weight exceeds 23 kg, but not more than 32 kg, then the passenger will have to pay 50 euros for flights within Russia and 100 dollars for flights to a number of other destinations. If the weight of baggage exceeds 32 kg, but not more than 50 kg, then the passenger must pay 100 euros for flights within the country and 150 dollars for other destinations.
