Where is Hainan on the world map? Map of Hainan in Russian

Hainan fully lives up to its name - and its name means - an island south of the sea.

There are versions that Hainan was formed when the soil dropped and a strait formed between the mainland. Hainan is a large island surrounded by the warm South China Sea.

On the island of Hainan, volcanic activity ended a long time ago - several thousand years ago, and therefore the Hainanese reassure tourists that there are no earthquakes or tsunamis on the island.

As a memory of former geological processes, numerous thermal springs remain in Hainan. They can treat various diseases but, unfortunately, the Chinese do not do such treatment. But on the island of Hainan Chinese treatment is very well developed - various types of massage, acupuncture, fish peeling.

History of Hainan Island

The Li people are considered to be the indigenous people of Hainan. It is obvious that they lived before the 1st century, and according to some sources they settled on the island seven thousand years ago.
Lee's legends say that a young man crossed the South Sea and on an island in the mountains found an egg, from which a girl came out and became his wife. Like all legends, this legend carries certain information.

According to today's research, the Li actually came from the southern regions of China, from territories that now belong to the provinces of Guangdong and Guangzhi.
Li language is a language of the Thai group. Li women cover their bodies with tattoos
The second nationality of Hainan is the Miao. The Miao ended up on the island as mercenaries.
With their help, the government crushed the Li rebels in the 16th–17th centuries, after which the Miao remained on the island of Hainan.

The Miao were considered brave warriors, and the legend of their origin says that they were descended from a dog and a princess. The princess's father promised her hand to the one who defeats the leader of the enemies. The winner was the yard dog, who brought the leader's head to the princess's father. The Miao still wear a headdress with ears during festivals.
In the 20th century, Hainan was a refuge for the communists (20-30s), and they became partisans with the communists and fought Japanese troops during the Second World War.
The island received a powerful impetus for development in 1988. Hainan became a special province - a free economic zone. The city of Haikou has become a major financial and administrative center, but of course the main vector of development of Hainan Island is tourism.

Hainan Island on the world map in Russian: where it is located

When you want something special, for example, a warm and azure sea, snow-white sand under your feet and a hot, warming sun, feel free to go on a trip. And you will be able to realize all your dreams and desires on the island of Hainan, which on the world map is located at the same latitude as Hawaii, and is often called “Eastern Hawaii”.

The tropical island itself is washed by the South China Sea and is located in the south of China, part of the province of the same name. The name Hainan literally translates from Chinese as “island south of the sea.”

The area of Hainan is quite vast, covering 33,920 km². It is the largest island in the province, which separated from the mainland in 1988, and is separated from the Leizhou Peninsula by the Qiongzhou Strait.
Mountains and volcanoes rise in the center of the island, so Hainan is considered a seismic and volcanically active place. But this does not prevent tourists from visiting the resort, which is so attractive to them. Moreover, the last, rather weak, eruption was observed back in 1933 in Chengmai County, and most of the craters are grouped along the northern coast of the island, so they do not pose a great danger.

History of the island

Hainan first became part of the centralized Chinese state during the Han Dynasty. However, there were no Chinese there as such, only a military camp in the north of the island. The situation changed dramatically with the advent of the Tang Dynasty.
The province of Hainan itself received its name during the Yuan Dynasty, and the island became part of Guangdong in 1370, until it was again separated into a separate administrative entity in 1906.

Island climate

The location of the island in the subtropical zone determines the subequatorial climate, that is, the weather on the island is controlled by tropical monsoons.
On average, the temperature on the island is +23...+25°C. In summer, the average monthly temperature in Hainan is +29°C, in winter - +23…+24°C. The highest air temperature was recorded in the northern part of the island - +41.1°C, and the lowest in the mountainous areas - +0.4°C

Although summer lasts all year round on the island, due to the influence of the monsoons, the weather is divided into two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.
The dry season lasts from two months to six. Dry weather lasts the longest on the northwestern coast, less on the southeastern coast. Typically this season lasts from December to March. Precipitation during this period is significantly less than in other months - only about 60 mm, versus 250 mm during the rainy season. The air temperature in the winter months is anything but wintery. In January, the thermometer confidently stays at +20°C and by March-April it reaches +29.9°C. The water temperature in the sea is also moderately warm +20°C in early January and already +25°C in April. The warmest sea is in June +29.9°C.
The rainy season begins in August and lasts until October, sometimes even the warmest month - June. Due to the collision of northern and southern air masses, typhoons and trade wind fronts are possible during this period. The rainy season lasts the longest in the southeast of Hainan, and is strongest in the mountainous regions of the central part. Therefore, when planning your trip during this time, be extremely careful!

Island attractions

From May 1, 2018, China offered visa-free entry to Hainan. Therefore, it has become easier for tourists to get to this tropical island, not only to soak up the sun by the sea, but also to see all the sights of Hainan.
Of course, first of all, this is one of the largest Buddhist complexes in Asia, located forty meters from the resort town of Sanyau at the foot of the Nanshan Mountain and having the same name - the Nanshan Center of Buddhism.
This complex covers an area of 50 m2, and on the roof of the impressive Guanyin Temple there is a statue of the Goddess of Mercy, 108 meters high!

Where would we be without the remarkable Phoenix Island, created artificially from coral reefs and land islands, and connected to Hainan Island by a 390-meter bridge! The island has several high-rise skyscrapers in a futuristic style, a yacht club, private villas, a sports complex, an amusement park and a beach.
And if you want to learn about the culture of the indigenous peoples of Hainan Island - the Li and the Miao, then you should visit the ethnographic village. This is an open-air museum with traditional buildings typical of these ethnographic groups, as well as improvised performances by actors who very realistically portray local residents and talk about life and everyday life in their rooms.

For those who like to watch nature and animals, as well as simply enjoy the picturesque landscapes of the island and admire its flora and fauna, there are attractions such as Monkey Island, Butterfly Park and Dongshan Safari Park.

It is impossible to list all the attractions of the island; it is better to go on a trip and see everything with your own eyes.

Unique tropical island of Hainan, is located within the southern province of the same name, representing China. The area of the island is approx. 34,438 square kilometers, and its population is approximately 8,671,517 people. The island is washed on all sides warm waters of the South China Sea.

Favorable climatic and geographical features of the region, due to its location at the same latitude as Hawaii, made the island one of the most popular East Asian resorts, and a very important center of Chinese agro-industry.

The famous resort of Sanya is located on the southern coast of the island, and is represented by a chain of hotels, the most prestigious of which are located directly on the shore. You can find Hainan Province on the world map using geographic coordinates - 19 degrees 6 minutes north latitude and 109 degrees 34 minutes east longitude. In addition, in a more detailed study of the region, the interactive Yandex map presented below can help you.

Relief of Hainan

Geographical schemes of the island, speaks of its volcanic origin, as evidenced by numerous geological studies in this area. Relief of Hainan, from the plains in the northeast smoothly passes to the mountains in the southwest. The main attraction of the island is the extinct Ma An volcano, the mouth of which tourists can view from observation platforms. In addition, on the island, as witnesses of past volcanic activity, there are thermal springs, whose temperature sometimes reaches more than 65 degrees Celsius.

  • Coast of the island is replete with picturesque bays, the elevation map of which also changes depending on where the bay is located.

Climate map of Hainan

  • Island climate– subequatorial tropical. The weather regime is quite favorable for life and consists of more than 280 sunny days a year. Average air temperature , here, varies between 25-27 degrees Celsius, and the water temperature is around 26 degrees in any season.
  • As you can see in the table, the best time of year would be a trip from May to November

Due to the absence of similar climatic zones in the country, China is very proud of the island’s territory and strongly encourages its economic development, drawing up schemes to popularize it among tourists. The island's climate map will help you find out more detailed information about zonal and seasonal meteorological changes.

Natural conditions

One of the most attractive aspects Hainan has unique natural resources, which China actively uses as a raw material base. Thus, on the island there are many endemic flora and fauna, as well as a considerable amount of fruits and plant crops traditional for the tropics. Among the island's sought-after natural resources you can select a tree Anchar, Hevea rubber plant, coconut palm, coffee and tea. Naturally, China has serious plans here to supply plantations and extract the products grown on them.

  • Beaches of Sanya resort

In addition, China uses the specific features of local flora and fauna as elements for tourism development. Thus, according to the map, Hainan has several extensive botanical gardens and protected areas, where travelers can get acquainted with the heritage of the local fabulous nature.

Generally, Hainan is ideal for those who have already traveled almost all of China and want to refresh their impressions of it. Based on the map, you can easily find a sea crossing in Hainan from Xuwen , but this option is more suitable for free travelers on long independent tours.

  • For the rest, I would recommend taking direct flights from Moscow to Sanya or Haikou airports.

Hainan has a tropical monsoon climate. This means that Hainan has windy but warm days throughout the year, moderate rains, clearly distinguishable wet and dry seasons, and rarely tropical storms. With the movement of equatorial moist air masses in summer, rains and then typhoons come to the north of Hainan. The summer heat is softened by sea breezes on the island. There is no snow in winter.

The best season to travel to Hainan is considered to be from October to May. Hainan is only 3% south of Guangdong, and yet, oddly enough, the natural conditions of Hainan Island differ significantly from the mainland. This is largely due to the influence of the sea. The total area of Hainan Island is, as is known, 34 thousand square meters. meters. (0.36% of the total area of China).

Hainan from satellite

Hainan's attractions include tropical mangrove forests growing in some parts of the coast. In some areas of the marine coastal strip, lush coral colonies grow, which form barriers and reefs. Hainan Island is replete with groves of coconut, areca and oil palms of natural, and more often artificial, origin.

Hainan Island lies entirely in the area of tropical forests, but they have been preserved mainly in the mountainous, less accessible part of it. The forests on the plains and foothills have been cleared, and these areas are occupied by rice and other tropical crops. In the southeastern part, evergreen tropical forests predominate, which are the richest in the number of tree, shrub, and liana species that form them. In the western part of the tropical deciduous forests, shedding more leaves in December-February.

Considerable areas under human influence, especially as a result of forest burning, have turned into thickets of tall grass vegetation up to 2-3 m. No less extensive areas are occupied by sandy spaces.

Hainan is one of the newest provinces in China, having separated from Guangdong in 1988, and the smallest in area. The province consists of several different islands, but Hainan is the largest of them. Although Hainan cannot be called an overly expensive holiday destination, there are very few budget hotels on this island, like, for example, in Thailand.

Now let's see where Hainan Island is located on the world map and China map.

Hainan: where is it?

This question is often asked by tourists who have heard about the island for the first time. Finding Hainan Island on a world map is not difficult as it is a fairly large island off the coast of China. It is simply impossible not to notice him. Hainan, separated by the Qiongzhou Strait from the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong Province, is the largest island administered by the People's Republic of China.

Below you can see where Hainan Island is on the world map.

The area of Hainan Island (32,900 square kilometers) is similar to the territory of some European countries. To the west of Hainan Island is the Gulf of Tonkin. Mount Vuzi is the highest peak on the island with a height of 1840 meters. Hainan is 169 km long and 155 km wide. Wetlands cover 320,000 hectares, of which 78,000 hectares were created artificially. Most of these lands are located in the eastern and northern regions. Most rivers originate in the central part of the island and flow radially in different directions. The Wanning River in the southern part is the largest here, its length is 350 kilometers. The Nandu River in the northern part is 314 kilometers long, and its tributary, the Xinwu River, is 109 kilometers long. The Changhua River in the west has a length of 230 kilometers, and the Wangkuan River in the east has a length of 162 kilometers. Evaporation around coastal areas during the dry season significantly reduces river flow. There are very few natural lakes in Hainan. In the north-central region there is a famous artificial reservoir - Song Tao Reservoir.

Main cities of Hainan

Haikou- The capital of the province, is on the northern coastline and handles most of the trade with the mainland.
Sanya is an attractive town, but is mainly used as a transit point on the way to the beaches.
Boao A well-developed tourist city on the east coast, it is home to the famous Boao Asian Forum. The city is an hour's drive from Haikou and about two hours from Sanya.

Weather

Hainan has excellent weather all year round. Although rain is possible during the winter months (December-February), you can enjoy a beach holiday here almost every day. Summer (June-September) can be very hot and humid, so be sure to drink plenty of fluids. At this time of year the temperature is usually 27-33°C. In winter the temperature rarely drops below 10-15°C.

How to get there

Haikou and Sanya are the main air hubs on the island. Haikou Airport (HAK), located approximately 25 kilometers from Haikou, receives a small number of international flights from Bangkok, Taiwan, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Macau, as well as daily domestic flights from Beijing, Guangzhou, Kunming, Nanning and Shanghai.
Sanya Phoenix International Airport (SYX) receives mainly domestic flights and international flights from cities in Russia, Hong Kong, Seoul and some other Asian countries.

Trains to Hainan run daily from Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai. Trains are loaded onto ferries to cross the sea, while passengers remain in the carriages. Typically, trains stop in both Haikou and Sanya, as well as Dongfang, which is located between Haikou and Sanya.

You can also get to Hainan by bus, which also takes the ferry.

Trips around the island

Haikou at the northern end and Sanya at the southern end are connected by three highways that run along the east coast, along the west coast and through the hilly center. Almost all more or less significant places on the island are close to one of these highways. Like everywhere else in China, Hainan has buses that go to almost anywhere.
Two railways connect Haikou and Sanya. One is the old Western Ring Railway and the other is the new high-speed eastern Ring Railway. Another high-speed Western Circle Railway is currently under construction. High-speed trains run between Haikou and Sanya at speeds of up to 250 km/h.

What language do they speak?

As elsewhere in China, Mandarin (a Northern Chinese language) is the most widely spoken language in Hainan. Almost every local resident can speak this language.

Hainan also has a significant number of people who speak other Chinese dialects. For example, the Dankyi region has its own local dialect, and the Ly people, the largest minority, speak a language that is distantly related to Thai and Lao. There is also a Miao community in Hainan who continue to speak the Miao language. However, most young people from these groups can also speak Inai and Mandarin.
As elsewhere in China, English is not widely spoken, but some people speak it quite well. Many hotel staff usually understand basic English phrases. The good news is that since Hainan is a popular destination among Russians, many store clerks and restaurant staff know some Russian words. But, firstly, we are talking only about employees of establishments located near hotels. Secondly, they mostly know only a few words, so it’s unlikely to be possible to talk to them in Russian.
