By the way, Russian beer weeks are planned here soon!

Finlandia Caviar Shop & Restaurant

A small cozy place next to the Market Square. One of the advantages is a wonderful view of the embankment and sailboats. Ideal for drinking champagne with caviar and oysters, which, according to visitors, are astronomical in size and have a truly wonderful taste. The owners of the establishment are Russians themselves - Valeria Hirvonen and her son Kirill Siren.

BasBas (Baskeri & Basso)

Finding this place is not easy, because it is located in the backyard of an industrial building. You need to go into the courtyard and immediately turn left, where the entrance will be. Bar Con

This interesting place located on the top floor in the food court of the Kamppi shopping center. Small pleasant bar with an emphasis on tapas, pintxos and sparkling wine. Plus, the high location adds an excellent view of the city. It feels like you're hovering over the city in a flying saucer.

Loyly

In general, Löyly is a public sauna on the shore of the bay, built according to the design of the architectural bureau AvantoArchitects. There is also a restaurant here, which has earned much attention due to its unique location and interesting architectural design. It is located far from the center, but this is a big plus, because there are very few tourists here. You can steam in the sauna, plunge into the chilling Gulf of Finland, and then warm up in the restaurant with hot soup or aromatic coffee. And in good weather We recommend sitting on the open terrace overlooking the city.

    Hernesaarenranta 4

This place is not very easy to find as there is no sign. You need to overcome a small staircase, several doors and knock. After a short wait you will be let inside. But there is a risk that there will be no free places. This is because this place is popular among local residents and enlightened tourists. The interior of Trillby & Chadwick is made in the best traditions of the times of Prohibition and bootleggers. There are also some unusual prohibitions in effect here. For example, absolute secrecy must be maintained and photography must not be taken. And the exit, by the way, is only through the back door.

    Katariinankatu 3

Bar Lilla E

This bar is located in the lobby of the Lilla Robert Hotel. The establishment's conceptual policy calls into question all known bar standards and approaches the creation of cocktails creatively. The drinks are made in accordance with the trends of the modern northern cuisine movement, using only local ingredients: wild herbs and some products atypical for cocktails. There is nothing “normal” or familiar here. The owners assure that these cocktails allow you to open your feelings and look at the world differently.

Among the city's restaurants there are first-class gourmet restaurants, restaurants with national cuisine and small bistros. There is always a lot of fresh vegetables, berries, mushrooms and, of course, fish.

The Finns themselves recommend trying seasonal delicacies when in Helsinki:

      • January - Burbot with caviar and pancakes.

The cafe was opened in 1985 and very quickly gained popularity among tourists and local residents. Due to the high attendance of the establishment, you will have to take care of booking a table in advance to spend the evening in this magnificent place.

Cafe Roberts Coffee

Did you know that nowhere in the world do they consume as much coffee as they drink in Finland? Unbelievable but true! On average, almost 15 kilograms of coffee are consumed per Finn. In every big city Coffee shops are located on every corner and there are always crowds of people there. Robert's Coffee, founded in 1987, is especially popular in Helsinki. This is a real paradise for both a coffee lover and a sweet tooth.

Today, Robert's Coffee is a thriving coffee company with cafes and stores around the world. The premises themselves are quite small and there are always crowds of people in them. Therefore, it is best to visit Robert's Coffee in spring or summer, when cozy tables and umbrellas are placed outside. Here you can not only snack on fresh pastries and delicate desserts, but also have a more substantial meal.

The bill at a Finnish restaurant may well exceed the budget for your entire weekend trip. So if you don’t want to empty your family budget, it’s better to look into one of the cafes in the Finnish capital, especially since they attract visitors with comfortable chairs, the bitter aroma of freshly brewed coffee, crispy pastries and a mesmerizing view from the windows.

Cafe Helsinki

The most cozy cafes in Helsinki

It’s quite difficult to find “uncomfortable” establishments in the Finnish capital. In any cafe you will be greeted by cleanliness, the smell of fresh baked goods and the smiles of the staff. But there are places where you can really feel at home.

Vanille

Remember Kustodiev’s cozy paintings, where a merchant and his merchant’s wife drink tea from a samovar on a sunny terrace with wooden railings? Surprisingly, today the easiest way to find yourself inside this “picture” is not somewhere in Russia, but in Helsinki. On the territory of the Suomenlinna fortress there is one of the old wooden houses that once belonged to Russian merchants; it was turned into a cozy Vanille cafe. On the menu: all kinds of teas, cinnamon rolls, pies, cakes with fresh berries, as well as soups and sandwiches. And in summer, the open terrace offers stunning views of the ramparts, wooden church and bushes of blooming jasmine.

Working hours: June, daily from 10:00 to 18:00, July, August, daily from 9:30 to 19:00, September, daily from 10:00 to 17:00

Johan & Nystrom Oy

Lampshades, wooden beams, red brick walls, sofas with colorful pillows, patterned plates that look like they came from grandma’s closet - in this cafe you feel like you’re visiting a good friend. A great place to chat with friends, have a cup of coffee or work on your laptop. In summer there is a terrace with excellent views of the bay, seagulls and ships.

Address: Kanavantara 7 C, Helsinki.

Working hours: Mon-Fri: from 8:30 to 18:00, Sat-Sun: from 10:00 to 18:00.

The most "coffee" cafes in Helsinki

Finns drink more coffee than any other nation in the world. So it’s not at all surprising that there are so many cafes in Helsinki that have become famous throughout Suomi not for their exquisite cuisine or unusual interior, but precisely for their excellent coffee.

Signora Delizia

If you are a little tired of high-quality, but not too strong Finnish coffee, you should definitely look into the cozy Signora Deliza cafe, located literally a stone's throw from the Assumption Cathedral. Here you can try real Italian coffee, black as the polar night, and fresh homemade ice cream.

Address: Satamakatu 5.

Working hours: Mon-Thu: from 8:00 to 18:30, Fri: from 8:00 to 06:00, Sat-Sun: from 10:00 to 06:00.

Freese Coffee Co

Here you can try coffee from different varieties of beans and different degrees of roasting, talk with the barista about the history of this drink, and look through the albums and books about coffee on the shelves (they are in both Finnish and English).

Address: Freesenkatu 5.

Working hours: Tue-Fri: 12:00-18:00, Sat: 10:00-17:00, Sun: 11:00-16:00.

The most beautiful cafes in Helsinki

There is a cafe in Helsinki where you feel like you’re in a museum, and you want to immediately take a photo of everything – from the interior and the view from the window to the dishes served.

Aschan Cafe Jugend

Here you can feel like a passenger in a time machine. Vaulted high ceilings, wooden furniture and exquisite melancholic landscapes on the walls will instantly transport you to 1904, the Art Nouveau era, when the building in which the cafe is located was built. You should try the chocolates here self made, drink a few cups of excellent coffee, and then don’t forget to buy one of the signature curved mugs from Tonfiskin keramiikkaa, in which drinks are served here, as a souvenir - you won’t find this anywhere else.

Address: Pohjoisesplanadi 19.

Working hours: Mon-Fri: from 09:00 to 19:00, Sat: from 10:00 to 18:00, Sun: from 11:00 to 18:00.

Cafe Regatta

Most of all, the Regatta café looks like a fairy-tale junk shop; every free centimeter of the walls is occupied by shelves, cabinets, on which there is a brass candlestick and an antique mirror, a reproduction of Rembrandt and someone’s faded photograph. Near the entrance there is an old red Moskvich, decorated with an advertisement for a cafe, and from the small terrace there is a breathtaking view of the bay. In the summer, heavy bunches of lilacs hang over the tables, and in the fall, deer skins are spread on the chairs to keep visitors warm. There are only two drawbacks to Cafe Regatta. Firstly, getting here from the center is not very convenient. Secondly, the menu only includes coffee, tea, pastries and traditional Finnish salmon sandwiches.

Address: Merikannontie 10.

Working hours: Sat-Sun: from 10:00 to 23:00.

The most delicious cafes in Helsinki

If you are seriously hungry after walking around Helsinki, and you want something more substantial than coffee and cake, many cafes in the Finnish capital are ready to offer you this.

Hakaniemen hall

Pies, salmon and ham sandwiches, fresh fish soup, fried chicken, crispy smelt - you definitely won’t leave hungry. The only problem: the place is so popular that on weekends it is almost impossible to find a free table. However, you can always buy freshly prepared takeaway food and have a picnic somewhere in the park.

Working hours: Mon-Fri: from 8:00 to 18:00, Sat: from 8:00 to 16:00.

Ravintola Teatteri

Soft armchairs, a fireplace, quiet music and a huge selection of fresh salads. This is a great place to grab a bite to eat after a long walk around Helsinki. It is especially good here in the summer, when you can sit on the open terrace with a glass of cool white wine, admiring the elegant alley of the Esplanade Park.

Address: Pohjoisespa 2.

Working hours: Mon-Tue: from 09:00 to 01:00, Wed-Fri: from 09:00 to 04:00, Sat: from 11:00 to 04:00.

How much will a visit to a Finnish cafe cost?

The average bill in a Finnish cafe is usually 20-30 euros per person.

Approximate prices:

  • A cup of coffee – 2-3 euros.
  • Cake – 3-5 euros.
  • Salad – 7-10 euros.
  • Soup – 4-7 euros.
  • Hot dish – 8-13 euros.

Be prepared for the fact that in many Finnish cafes:

They don't sell alcohol. Finns believe that cafes are a great place to spend time with children or to have a cup of coffee in peace and quiet while walking. But in order to meet friends over a glass of beer, according to Finns, bars and pubs are much more suitable.

A cafe is not a restaurant. If Russian catering establishments often offer visitors a huge selection of dozens of dishes: from appetizers to desserts, then in Finland the menu in a cafe is usually very tiny. Usually this is a couple of salads, “soup of the day,” a maximum of three hot dishes and, of course, a huge selection of fresh pastries, delicious coffee and soft drinks.

There are no cafes in Suomi that are open 24 hours a day. Most of Such establishments close at six in the evening. Cafes open for visitors as early as seven or eight o'clock in the morning.

Helsinki bars: relaxing in Finnish style

Do the Finns seem to you to be a purely pragmatic nation, spending their lives following the “home-work-home” pattern? To break this stereotype, it is enough to devote a few evenings to a stroll through the most interesting bars in Helsinki.

The Finnish capital, as befits a progressive European city, is a triumph of internationalism, including in matters of gastronomy. In Helsinki, tourists can taste dishes from any cuisine in the world. Of course, establishments specializing exclusively in Scandinavian menus stand apart and deserve close attention. Just look at the delicious salmon in different variations, dried venison, desserts with cranberries and lingonberries! Just the sight of these dishes can work up your appetite in earnest.

National cuisine

There are quite a lot of local restaurants in Helsinki. Traditions are still strong in Finnish society; while away the evening with family or friends, enjoying the tastes of your favorite dishes, it’s a nice thing. Although almost half of the clients are still guests of the capital.

You can experience the mysteries of haute cuisine “Finnish style”, taste seafood prepared in the best existing way, and also enjoy the politeness of the staff in the floating restaurant Ravintola Meripaviljonki (Saastopankinranta, 3). But for lunch or dinner you will have to fork out 130-140 EUR for two. As compensation - perfect service and a pleasant view from the window. Prices on the page are for October 2018.

Restaurant Savotta on Aleksanterinkatu, 22 next to Cathedral less pretentious. The interior is decorated in the style of a Finno-Ugric home: wooden furniture, cozy rugs, handmade shelves and antique clocks. The names on the menu were approached creatively: fried vendace was dubbed “From Lake Saimaa”, and young deer fillet was dubbed “From the expanses of Lapland”. Prices are average by Finnish standards: 20-40 EUR for a main course and 12-15 for an appetizer/salad.

Restaurants

One of the favorite places among tourists that has earned excellent reviews is Kolme Kruunua (Liisankatu, 5). A creamy salmon soup costs only 10 EUR, and a juicy steak costs 20. Visitors especially praise the venison dishes. Inexpensive set lunches from 10 EUR can be ordered at Nokka (Kanavaranta, 7F). It also offers tasting sets for 50-60 EUR. The chefs focus on fish, meat and vegetables.

Many restaurants in Helsinki have menus in Russian.

Asian exotica mixed with exquisite presentation is presented in Farang (Ainonkatu, 3), which is mentioned in the Michelin guide. The prices are appropriate: sets of 10 dishes for 70 EUR or dinner for two for 180-200 EUR. It will be cheaper at HOKU (Urho Kekkosen katu, 1), where they know a lot about Japanese cuisine. A hot meal starts from 15 EUR, a glass of wine will cost 7-8 EUR.

The checklist for a truly comfortable vacation should look like this: buy a stylish suitcase cover, a comfortable pillow for the plane, a bright towel for the beach and, of course, a new swimsuit. There is this and much more with a 15% discount using the promotional code valid until the end of the year.

Coffee shops and pastry shops

For sweets, coffee and history, go to Ekberg (Bulevardi, 9), a café-patisserie founded in the mid-19th century. There are as many tourists there as there are cakes, but for a hearty breakfast they charge only 11-18 EUR, which is quite good for Helsinki. Nearby there is a boutique of the same name, where they sell chocolates, jams and other desserts. Something else competes with Ekberg legendary place- cafe Fazer (Kluuvikatu, 3).

Robert's coffee is one of the most famous coffee chains in Finland. Its branches are located in the center, residential areas, at the train station and at the ferry terminal.

The University of Helsinki coffee shop Think Corner (Yliopistonkatu, 4) welcomes with open arms not only students, but also guests of the Finnish capital. Desserts - from 2.5 EUR, a cup of aromatic cappuccino - 4 EUR. You can stop by Joe & The Juice on Aleksanterinkatu, 52 and try unusual coffee drinks, smoothies and juices. Bars

There are bars and pubs at every turn in Helsinki - Finns party as hard as they work hard. The menu includes dozens of excellent varieties of beer, local vodka with the aroma of wild berries, liqueurs infused with lingonberries, blueberries, cloudberries, sea buckthorn and cranberries - so sweet and aromatic that they even “overwhelm” the smell of alcohol. Often there are no waiters in establishments, and the list of dishes is very meager, so it is better to have a hearty dinner before your visit.

Bryggeri Helsinki (Sofiankatu, 2) has a large selection of home-brewed foamy drink, which is prepared in cauldrons right in front of customers. For a glass of beer they will ask for 7-8 EUR. Latva Bar (Korkeavuorenkatu, 25) makes interesting alcoholic cocktails and combines incongruous things. All this is seasoned with jokes from the bartenders and a warm, friendly atmosphere. For pleasure you will have to pay 8-10 EUR.

Where to eat inexpensively

You don’t have to part with a hundred or two euros to satisfy your hunger after walking. The city has many inexpensive cafes, snack bars, burger joints and takeaway food outlets. Friends & Brgrs Helsinki (Mikonkatu, 8) and Naughty BRGR (Loennrotinkatu, 13) are well-deservedly popular among locals. For 8-9 EUR you can order juicy burgers, including vegetarian ones, French fries, wings, onion rings and other “harmful” things. It is more profitable to take a set lunch for 12-13 EUR.

For travelers who carefully calculate their budget, bistros with a buffet are suitable, where for a fixed fee of 10-13 EUR they offer several dishes or collect food on a plate from trays. As a rule, you have to pay separately for drinks and desserts. For example, they cook well at Ravintola Factory Aleksi (Aleksanterinkatu, 13 | Floor 5) or Suburritos (Yrjoenkatu, 29 | Forum, Kukontori). If you want to save money, but hunger is approaching, then the direct route is to the RAX buffet snack chain (Mikonkatu, 8 or Aleksanterinkatu, 11). After paying at the entrance, you can stay there: the number of approaches is not limited. Unfortunately, many visitors note that the inside is not very clean and the food is mediocre.

Of course, McDonald's and Burger King have not been canceled. More than a dozen points of each network operate in Helsinki. A burger from these “fast food kings” costs 5-6 EUR.
