On the site you can find reports with tips on what attractions you can see in Frankfurt am Main if you have one day, or even just a few hours, between flight connections during your trip. In particular, I recommended going to the Palmengarten botanical garden or the Frankfurt Zoo. By the way, the report on the visit to the zoo contains instructions on how to get from Frankfurt airport to the city center. Today, we will begin a series of articles with reports on what to see in the vicinity of Frankfurt in one day or more. The fact is that at the end of October this year I spent 3 weeks on a business trip in Germany, and I needed to occupy my three days off with something.

I had a car at my disposal. After reading the report, you will understand what interesting places you can visit in one day while moving around Germany by car. We managed the following:

  • Day one: a) cultural and historical open-air museum Hessenpark; b) Opel Zoo with African elephants and cheetahs; c) an incredibly cozy town in the wine region of Germany - Rüdesheim am Rhein; d) drive along the most beautiful road along the Rhine valley with dozens of castles clinging to the rocks above the river; e) take a night panorama of Frankfurt am Main with a view of skyscrapers (Frankfurt Skyline).
  • Day two: a) the sinister Frankenstein Castle (Burg Frankenstein) in the vicinity of the city of Darmstadt; b) the ancient and endlessly pleasant town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, part of the popular tourist route Romantische Straße; c) a city included in the UNESCO list - Heidelberg (Heidelberg, Heidelberg) with ancient streets and a castle on the mountain (we had enough time, but we didn’t visit because it was raining).
  • Day three: Automobile and Technology Museum Sinsheim (Auto- und Technikmuseum Sinsheim). We spent half a day here and left for the airport.

In today’s story and subsequent chapters, I will publish photographs and give feedback on our independent excursion as part of a team: me, my work colleague and his wife. The car is a diesel Ford Focus with a navigator (it is impossible to travel around Germany without navigation). We leave at 8 o'clock in the morning from the hotel located in the town of Rossdorf (Roßdorf) 36 kilometers from Frankfurt am Main airport (Der Flughafen Frankfurt). In one of the articles with stories about traveling around Germany, I already advised staying in the suburbs if you want to save on hotel accommodations.

Review of the excursion to the open-air museum Hessenpark (Hessenpark)

In Germany, provinces are usually called Länder. The financial center of the Federal Republic of Frankfurt am Main is located in the Land of Hessen, which in Russian, for some reason, is usually called Hesse. Although Frankfurt is richer and has a larger population, the capital of the region is Wiesbaden.

In Frankfurt itself, not many ancient buildings have survived. If you want to see German antiquity, it is better to go to Heidelberg or Rothenburg ob der Tauber. But, if you don’t have much time, you can take a walk around the central square of Römer Platz to see characteristic German houses, a la Andersen’s fairy tales.

Well, if your travel schedule in Germany allows you to set aside half a day for an excursion, go to the open-air museum of German architecture Hessenpark (Freilichtmuseum Hessenpark).

This is what the all-knowing Google says about this folklore park. The museum was founded in 1974. To date, more than 100 buildings have been collected here, representing the architecture of Hesse over the last 400 years of history. All houses in the museum are grouped into 5 zones, represented in this region. You can see:

  • village church;
  • synagogue;
  • rural school;
  • mail;
  • market Square;
  • bakery;
  • water and windmills;
  • forge;
  • printing house.

The official website reports the opening hours of the open-air museum (hessenpark.de):

  • from March 1 to October 31: from 9:00 to 18:00;
  • from November 1 to February 28: only on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00;

Tourists are allowed into the territory no later than 1 hour before the museum closes. If you order a guide, you can come at any time throughout the year. Ticket price for adults is 8 euros. There are discounts for children, students and disabled people. You can buy a family ticket (parents with a child from 6 to 15 years old) for 16 euros. Admission for dogs is 1 euro...

Folk craft demonstrations are periodically held on the grounds of the Hessenpark Museum. So, during our excursion, the uncle was “smoking” charcoal, and the granny was spinning on a spinning wheel.

The navigator led us to a free parking lot at the entrance to Hessenpark. Beautiful houses immediately begin here. We went to the Iron Casting Museum.

You can see various objects: from cast iron rails to potbelly stoves. Then we went to the city square, the architecture of which is typical of any city in Germany.

Earlier I mentioned Römer Platz in Frankfurt. So, she looks almost the same.

By the way, while looking through my archives, I noticed that photos in squares without a foreground don’t look very nice. I decided to improve in Hesse Park: I climbed over the fence and pressed my back against the wall of the building just to fit the table in the foreground. Isn't it better this way?

The blog contains a review of a trip to the open-air museum-reserve of wooden architecture in the village of Nizhnyaya Sinyachikha, Sverdlovsk region. In it I noted that many houses have their own mini-museum. In Hessen Park, too, almost every building houses some kind of exhibition demonstrating the life of a simple German burgher, which has not changed much for 400 years.

By the way, just like in the village of Nizhnyaya Sinyachikha, where all the houses are original (they were brought there from all over the Urals), the buildings in Hessenpark are also real.

Little pigs, cute sheep and such tough guys graze in the gardens.

5. Geese-geese... Excursion to Hesse Park in the vicinity of Frankfurt. Reviews from tourists about a trip to Germany.

There are three (I think) windmills in the park.

It seems to me that in this photo the hedge is out of place, from a composition point of view. The viewer’s gaze “stumbles” over it. Perhaps because the poles lie horizontally, and the windmill stands vertically. In another photo, the fence lines are in harmony with Don Quixote's rival?..

In addition to sheep and geese, you can also find larger animals in Hesse Park.

Here, a quarter of an hour by car from Frankfurt, you can immerse yourself in German antiquity.

We have already discussed several times with the guys in other blog articles that when you come somewhere on an excursion, you often forget to think before pressing the shutter button on the camera. So I forgot, admiring the beautyHessenpark that a good report should include photos with general, medium, close-up and super close-ups. And when I remembered, I started removing the windows...

...And the doors...

I couldn't pass by such a jalopy.

Eh, there are not enough people in ancient clothes on these streets...

How to get toHessenpark

If you decide to get to Hessenpark by car, like us, you need to take the A5 autobahn, take the exit No. 16 Friedberg and follow the direction Friedrichsdorf/Karben. Here are the GPS coordinates: N 50.275738, E 8.523463. And the address: Laubweg 5, 61267 Neu-Anspach.

You can also get to Hessenpark by public transport. In Frankfurt we take the S-Bahn S-Bahn route “S5” to Bad Hamburg, where we change trains to the Hessische Landesbahn (HLB) to get to Neu-Anspach. From here bus number 63 goes to Hessenpark.

My review of the excursion to Hessenpark: if you cannot plan a route to get to the city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, then you can then come to this open-air museum. But I was more interested in Rothenburg ob der Tauber...

After a long walk between the old houses, we went to see antelopes at the Opel Zoo, which is located just 20 kilometers from Hessenpark. But I will write a review about this excursion in a separate article. Now let's move on to the report on the trip to the city of Rüdesheim am Rhein, where the vineyard region and the beautiful Rhine Valley begin.

Excursion to the city of Rüdesheim am Rhein

After visiting the animals at the Opel Zoo, our path lay in Rüdesheim am Rhein, where I had already visited three years ago with friends. This is a pleasant little town at the foot of high hills. It is one of the centers of winemaking in Germany. It is located in the southern part of the Rhine Valley (Mittelrheintal).

In turn, the Rhine Valley or Middle Rhine Valley is the most famous place among tourists in Germany. This includes the section from the city of Bonn to Bingen near Mainz. The valley from Rüdesheim to Koblenz is listed by UNESCO as the Rhine Gorge (Rhine Canyon), and the entire section is called the Romantic Rhine (English: Romantic Rhine, German: Romantische Rhein).

This is the second time I’ve come to the city of Rüdesheim am Rhein in mid-autumn, when the grapes are ripening, in good weather. There are many tourists from all over the world who come to taste local wines and admire the Rhine Valley from the observation deck.

15. Although the city of Rüdesheim am Rhein is a wine-growing region, a true German cannot do without beer. If you have time to travel here from Frankfurt, I definitely recommend it.

There is a pleasant, somewhat festive atmosphere on the streets.

The town of Rüdesheim am Rhein lies at the foot of a high hill. A cable car and many paths between the vineyards lead to its top. Three years ago we went up the cable car and went down walking along the paths. Now, it was already getting dark and we were afraid that we wouldn’t have time to drive along the section from Rüdesheim to Koblenz – one of the most beautiful places in Germany – before dark. Therefore, we took a round-trip ticket to the ski lift (7.5 euros per person).

At the top of the 225-meter-high hill is the Niederwalddenkmal Monument, symbolizing Germany, which won the Franco-Prussian War. It took 7 years to build. The stone was laid by Chancellor Wilhelm I himself. Its height is 38 meters (for comparison, the Motherland in Volgograd is 52 meters). The views from above are certainly breathtaking!

I think you should get here a little earlier. We were in a hurry and did not have time to enjoy the atmosphere of the ancient city of Rüdesheim.

I highly, highly recommend taking the road from Rüdesheim to Koblenz!!! The river meanders between steep cliffs, each of which has a castle. I lost count of the 15th castle... One sad thing: the road lies along the coast and there are almost no parking areas on it. It is very difficult to find a place to take a beautiful photo. This time the sun has also set - I don’t have a single photo...

Filming Frankfurt at night

We arrived in Frankfurt am Main only at 10 o'clock in the evening. I have long wanted to take a “hackneyed” shot with a view of the skyscrapers of the financial capital of Germany.

26. Frankfurt Skyline... Night photographs are taken from a tripod. What settings to use - read the story about the excursion to the Chinese city of Fenghuang

Hello everyone, dear friends! Today I have prepared for you a report about the first day in wonderful Frankfurt am Main: photographs of beautiful places and a short review about this city. If you are going to visit Frankfurt, you can choose from the photos presented which places you want to see with your own eyes.

Business atmosphere of the city

You will feel this atmosphere as soon as you find yourself in the business part of the city: huge skyscrapers, between which people in business attire are scurrying back and forth. I noticed that everyone, even women, adheres to strict rules and wears suits, shirts and jackets. Makeup is very simple, or there is none at all.

Frankfurt is a clever interweaving of economic symbolism with traditional German architecture. Here you can see how strict skyscrapers and buildings with beautiful stucco work do not clash at all in style and look very harmonious.

As I said in the last story, as soon as we arrived, we were impressed by the station building.

There are taxis and bicycle rentals near the station building. But we didn't get to use them, since our hotel room was booked just one block away. Therefore, with our mouths open, we slowly walked towards the hotel.

But first we needed to buy a SIM card in order to always have access to the Internet and make inexpensive calls to Russia. We bought it at a mobile phone store, which is located not far from the station (a more precise indication of the place of purchase of the SIM card can be found). In general, as we later figured out, you can even buy them in small shops located in the underground passage near the same station.

Our hotel is called “The Corner Hotel”. This was the best room of all during our trip in terms of price/quality ratio. I wrote more about all German hotels, prices and quality of service here.

We didn't plan to stay in the room for a long time, so as soon as our things were unpacked, we went for a walk. And that's where it began! You probably know that feeling of delight when you walk through the streets of an unfamiliar beautiful city for the first time and want to take pictures of every bush!

For example, near one of the business centers there is a monument to a tie with a collar. Which is very symbolic for this city.

Bicycles are literally everywhere here. This type of transport is used by absolutely everyone, regardless of age. People travel to or from work, to the shops or just to run errands. On weekends you can see families going out for walks. Women are not shy and ride bicycles in dresses.

But I noticed their common difference: these are all CITY bikes. They do not have shock absorbers, wide wheels with aggressive tread, like mountain or sports models. Here they are simply not needed, because... the roads are perfect. For comparison, in my native Yekaterinburg, sports models are more popular for jumping over curbs and all kinds of holes.

After some time we came to the famous Euro monument, which is the symbol of this city, and which can be seen so often in the media. And right below it, as if nothing had happened, people were relaxing on the lawns. This is what I understand, freedom of action.

We came across such cute fountains very often. This is a salvation for city residents on days of unbearable heat. The most happy of all, of course, are the children running and squealing with joy.

Continuing our walk through the streets of Frankfurt, we approached the Zeil pedestrian street. There is such a street in almost every city. There are many cafes, restaurants, clothing stores, perfumes and other things. Various events are also held, such as concerts, exhibitions or festivals.

One of the largest shopping centers in Frankfurt "Zeilgalerie". On the top floor of the building there is a restaurant and an observation deck, which offers a magnificent view.

The facade of the neighboring building is made in the form of a giant glass funnel. Impressive!

We went to the first store we came across and, since it was too hot in our shoes, we bought ourselves a pair of cute rag sneakers. They cost us 1200 rubles. for two pairs. True, the shoes we arrived in became an additional burden for us. Therefore, prepare carefully for your trip, and this article will help you.

On the pedestrian street you can see an exhibition of paintings or a performance of musicians. I saw a guy who was selling hand-woven personalized baubles for a couple of euros. You can order a bauble with your name in the desired color, and it will be ready in a few minutes. You will get a handmade souvenir as a souvenir, which is highly valued by the Germans.

In Germany, in crowded places, almost every day we met groups of traveling young people who performed to earn extra money. Basically they played music and after a few songs they collected money. All this looks very lively and interesting.

We reached the end of the pedestrian street and sat down at one of the tables of a small Turkish cafe. These are inexpensive eateries and there are quite a lot of them here. Often called "Döner". The main dishes here are prepared from meat, which is roasted in large pieces on a spit. When ready, the outer layer is cut off and used in preparing various dishes.

As soon as we sat down, the waiter immediately brought the menu. On my husband’s advice, I chose the dish and, to be honest, I really liked it. Although it cannot be called dietary. Traveling to Germany is contraindicated for anyone losing weight =). Because it is simply impossible to resist sausages, sausages, Turkish and Italian cuisine and all kinds of sweet shops. At least I didn't even try. And the portions do not contribute to weight loss at all. I wrote about dishes that you must try in Germany.

They brought me a plate on which there were two impressive pieces of meat, a mountain of salad and bread. My husband also “got it”, but he didn’t even resist. I didn’t eat my portion, although it was very tasty. And all this together with drinks came out to about 400 rubles.

On the embankment of the Main River

We had a hearty dinner and headed towards the embankment. After all, if you are in Frankfurt, you definitely need to visit there. On the way we enjoyed the German streets.

When we finally arrived at the Main River embankment, a magnificent view opened up before us.

We moved along the embankment. The banks of the Main River are connected by many bridges, and we walked along some of them that evening.

For example, this Eiserne Steg bridge, which is over 100 years old, is made of iron beams held together with rivets. This place is one of the most popular among tourists.

The embankment is lively. People relax, walk. You can see noisy groups of young people sitting on lawns or sitting in small cafes.

Some people spend their evenings like this.

In general, the Germans are a very healthy nation. One way or another, almost everyone is related to sports; gyms and all kinds of sections are very accessible both in price and in location. Biking with the whole family is a common thing for them.

It's time for us to return to the hotel. This day was very eventful for us, and the flight, no matter how it was accompanied, is very tiring.

And finally, I share with you the magnificent evening view from the window of our room.

I associate this day with one song, which complements the impressions of that day. I'll leave it here for you, dear readers:

This is how our acquaintance with Frankfurt am Main went, I hope you liked the photos. Read also: photos from a German bachelorette party, how to save on visiting attractions and why you should visit the zoo in Frankfurt. That's all I have for today. Thank you for your attention, bye bye!

Very often, not only city residents, but also visiting tourists, simply call the city Frankfurt. Being a city of contrasts, there are always many tourists here who truly enjoy admiring this beauty. Modern skyscrapers coexist perfectly with ancient cathedrals of the Middle Ages, and such duality is visible in many respects.

Located in the central part of Germany, on the banks of the Main River, the city is considered the largest financial, transport and cultural center of the country, which is why many offices of world companies are located in Frankfurt. In this regard, some residents gave the city another nickname - Bankfurt. Some of the country's famous and important universities are located here: the University of Applied Sciences, the School of Finance and Management, the I. Goethe University and others.

Recreation in urban areas is very diverse, so you will definitely like it here.

The climate in the city is moderate continental, so summers are always warm and sunny, and winters are almost snowless and relatively comfortable. The end of spring and the beginning of autumn is perhaps the best time to stay in Frankfurt, when the weather is practically rainless.

The Main River is considered the longest river in the country, which flows only through the territory of Germany, it is also a tributary of the amazing river - the Rhine. In the vicinity of the city there are a very large number of vineyards, the products of which are used to prepare the world's most famous wines.

Holidays for the elderly

Elderly people would feel comfortable because of the calm atmosphere and pleasing greenery. On Zeil Street you can find an inexpensive cafe and have a beer and sausage, and you can also visit churches and museums.

What to take with you on vacation?

You don’t need to take anything special with you, but I would recommend comfortable shoes, since you will have to walk a lot along the pedestrian streets of the center, and closed clothes without deep necklines: the Germans dress simply and do not welcome excessive exposure of the body. And don't forget about the euro.

What to do at the resort?

Frankfurt is rich in attractions. First of all, visit religious sites. St. Bartholomew's Cathedral was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. This is the main church of the city in the Gothic style. A visit to it will be interesting for historians, since the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation were elected in the church from the mid-14th century, and emperors were crowned from the mid-16th to the end of the 18th centuries. The walls of St. Paul's Church housed the first Parliament in 1848. Nowadays the church hosts exhibitions and various events. Go to the Church of St. Catherine, which is located at the beginning of Zeil Street. At the end of Zeil Street is the Guardhouse building, built in the Baroque style in the 18th century. In general, Zeil is the main tourist attraction in Frankfurt am Main. This shopping street is the most crowded in all of Germany. In fact, this is a pedestrian zone, at the beginning and end of which there are also large shopping centers: Hauptwache and Konstablerwache.

Zeil is a place for sales before Christmas.

You can also visit the “old” and “new” opera, the Goethehaus (the great German writer Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born here in 1749), and the Museum of Applied Arts. You can walk along Römer Street and admire the skyscrapers. By the way, there are already 13 of them here. We climbed the Henningerturm to a height of 110 meters. There is a cool observation deck here: you can see the whole city, and there are also revolving restaurants here.

What can you buy?

There are many shopping centers and branded stores on Zeil Street. You can buy whatever you want. We were looking for clothes and shoes. There are many departments, there are more expensive and cheaper ones. I noticed that Germans prefer checkered shirts, and migrants and Russian tourists take the cheapest ones. Clothes from Turkey, Bangladesh, China. There is a lot lying on the floor as customers literally swoop in and take them off the hangers. You can find one item in all sizes. You will definitely get a smile at the checkout, but they will charge you extra for a plastic bag, so many people take their own bags or bags. All purchases were successful.

About product prices

We found ourselves on a sale: T-shirts were selling for 1 euro, T-shirts - 2-5 euros, checkered shirts - 15 euros, moccasins - 10 euros.

Where can I eat?

There are a lot of cafes and restaurants on Zeil Street, literally at every turn. You can go up to the heights at the Henningerturm, or you can go to the regular pizzeria where we went. It was a real Italian pizzeria, with real Italian staff and Italian food.

About the quality of food and service

The food is delicious, it was the first time I tried real Italian pizza. I admit that it was so large in size and nutritious that I left half. We were offered Italian mineral water and bread to go with the pizza. The Italian owner served us. We had lunch and were the only people there, perhaps due to the high prices.

How much does it cost to eat? About food prices.

Food prices in Frankfurt are low. For example, ice cream costs 1 euro, a bun and coffee - 3-5 euros. At the pizzeria we paid 30 euros for three. This is considered very expensive.

Advantages of a holiday in Frankfurt am Main

Of course, I enjoyed walking along Zeil Street, visiting shopping centers and cultural sites. Everything is very cheap. It's clean and tidy here. Frankfurt is a transport hub, so getting here is easy. There is an airport with trains running from it, but the Germans prefer to come here by car and walk around the city.

Is it worth a holiday in Frankfurt am Main?

You should definitely visit Frankfurt am Main, as it is the center of German history and culture. I will come here again, but rather for shopping.

Very often, not only city residents, but also visiting tourists, simply call the city Frankfurt. Being a city of contrasts, there are always many tourists here who truly enjoy admiring this beauty.

Frankfurt is one of the most famous cities in Germany. The full name Frankfurt am Main is due to its location near the Main River. Frankfurt is one of the largest historical and cultural centers of the country. Perhaps in the capital of Germany you can find a larger number of museums.

Despite the rich history of the city, you will hardly find any old buildings in its center. The thing is that the city was severely destroyed during the war, after which it had to be rebuilt.

Frankfurt is a modern city with excellent, albeit expensive, entertainment options. The presence of mostly new buildings makes it similar to New York, hence the nickname "Manhattan".

Administrative division

Frankfurt includes 46 administrative districts. Each of them is divided into districts, the number of which amounts to as many as 118. The largest district of the city is Sachsenhausen.

Each of the Frankfurt districts is distinguished by having its own committee, headed by a chairman.

Calendar of holidays and festivals

In addition to national holidays, Frankfurt also celebrates some of its own celebrations. So, for example, this city has long received the status of the jazz capital of Europe.

Autumn

German Jazz Festival Frankfurt is an event you should definitely attend. At least once in my life. If you consider yourself a fan or even just a jazz lover, then you don’t have to plan anything else for the coming October.

Summer

Frankfurt is also well known as a center of apple winemaking. A corresponding festival dedicated to apple wine is held in this city every August. In addition to directly drinking wine, festival participants can also enjoy a colorful theatrical program.

Spring

Frankfurt am Main is a major cultural center of the country, and the number of museums located there is impressive. Therefore, if you wish, you can visit the Night of Museums, which takes place in the city every year in early May. As part of this night, all 40 museums in the city open their doors, where unusual exhibitions, theatrical performances and parties will await you.

How to get there

By plane

The main airport of the city bears the appropriate name - Frankfurt am Main International Airport, or Rhine-Main Airport - it is the largest airport in Germany and the third in Europe in terms of the number of passengers. You can get from here to the city center by suburban train S7 and S8. The trip costs 4 euros, travel time is 10-20 minutes.

Another option is to take a taxi and rush to the city with the breeze. But the cost of the trip will be from 40 to 100 euros.

Many Russian airlines fly to Frankfurt: Aeroflot, Transaero, Rossiya Airlines, S7 Airlines, as well as some budget European ones: Turkish Airlines, Czech Airlines, airBaltic, Iberia, Vueling, etc.

By train

Railway communications within Germany are extremely well developed. But if you need to get to this city from Russia, then some difficulties may arise. Therefore, if you want to save both time and money, it is better to use the services of airlines.

By bus

Buses, both intercity and international, run through Frankfurt am Main regularly. But there is no convenient communication between it and Russian cities.

But if necessary, you can easily diversify your holiday in Frankfurt by going for a few days by bus to any other city in Germany and even neighboring countries in Europe. It won't take much time and the money will be very affordable.

By car

You can also visit Frankfurt by driving a car, either your own or a rented one. The second option is preferable, and it is better to rent a car in one of the European countries. The fact is that with EU license plates there will be much fewer problems on the road.

When setting off on the road, do not forget that you must have an international driving license, as well as a special insurance card. Roads throughout Europe are comfortable enough to get around easily and without problems. There are plenty of parking spaces and parking lots in each of the districts of Frankfurt.

How to get around Frankfurt am Main

The city's public transport is represented by more than 40 bus routes, 9 tram lines, as well as a fairly convenient metro system. And this is not to mention the 9 lines of commuter trains.

Thus, public transport covers almost the entire city and is quite inexpensive.

Rates

You must pay for the fare before starting your trip. This is done in special machines where you can purchase a travel ticket. There are two types of tickets - one-time tickets - 2.40 euros and daily allowances - 4.70 euros.

If you decide to save money and ride like a hare, it will be fraught with extremely unpleasant consequences. So, for example, the corresponding inspection is constantly carried out by plainclothes inspectors. They check tickets and, if a stowaway is found, they fine him a fairly large amount - 40 euros. There is no way you can avoid a fine, so it’s better to play it safe and buy a travel card right away.

All types of public transport in Main operate in full accordance with their schedule. The waiting time, as a rule, does not exceed 10 minutes. You can find out the arrival time of the next bus or train by checking the corresponding schedule at the stop.

Metro

The Frankfurt metro is quite large. It has 7 lines and 85 stations, both underground and above ground. Therefore, by metro you can quickly and comfortably get to almost any part of the city.

Train operating hours: 04.30-01.30 daily.

Trams

Tram lines are a kind of continuation of metro lines. Therefore, with their help you can reach even the most remote parts of Frankfurt. There are a total of 9 tram lines in the city.

Taxi

There are many taxi drivers in Frankfurt, but the prices for taxi services are quite high. As practice shows, with a little understanding, you can completely do without their services.

What to see in Frankfurt am Main

The city center bears the sonorous name Renerberg. It is surrounded by old walls built during the reign of Charlemagne. This quarter was once distinguished by majestic historical buildings, but as a result of the 1944 bombing, most of them were destroyed.

Today, only such sights as St. Bartholomew's Cathedral, the Chapel of Elections and some others have been preserved in the center.

On the territory of Romerberg there is also the town hall - a building of amazing architecture, which overlooks the Roserplatz square, where the Christmas market is held every December.

If you move northwest from the city center, you will come to Frankfurt's two main shopping streets - Goethe Strasse and Grosse Bockenheimer Strasse. The first one sells jewelry, as well as designer clothing from famous brands. On the second street you can visit one of the many delicatessen shops, as well as have a snack in one of the cozy restaurants.

In the same area of the city there is also a skyscraper called the Main Tower. Hundreds of tourists visit it every day for the observation deck, located on the 86th floor of the building, which offers simply stunning panoramic views of the entire city. There are also various museums nearby, the most popular of which is Stredel. It contains paintings by the most famous German masters.

Other notable museums are the Museum of German Architecture and the German Film Museum.

If you find yourself in Frankfurt am Main, here is a small list of attractions that you should definitely see:

  • Goethe's house. Frankfurt has gained particular popularity mainly because it is the birthplace of the great German writer Wolfgang von Goethe. The writer's original house was destroyed during the war. This building is its restored copy. Nevertheless, it is extremely interesting to get acquainted with the life of the Goethe family.
  • Palmengarten. This is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens you have ever seen. It was founded back in 1868 and today it is distinguished by the fact that a tropical climate was created in its greenhouses (hence, in fact, the corresponding name). Walking through Palmengarten, you will feel like you are in a real African savannah.
  • Paulskirche. This is one of the oldest and most remarkable churches in Germany. It was built at the end of the 18th century. The Church of St. Paul is interesting because in the middle of the 19th century, meetings of the country’s first parliament were held there. This is the political significance of a religious object.
  • Taverns in the Sachsenhausen district. This attraction is best left for later. At the end of your walk through the city, try a light apple cider, which is made only in Frankfurt. You will definitely like him.

Attractions

Things to do

Despite the stunning historical past of Frankfurt, sooner or later you get tired of the abundance of various museums and other similar attractions. That’s when you need something that could slightly dilute the monotonous pastime.

If you find yourself in Frankfurt am Main, then you can visit one of the many nightclubs in the city. Various kinds of parties are held here regularly, and they differ only in scale and theme. If you are interested in family vacation options, be sure to visit the local zoo. Without a doubt, it will bring you a lot of pleasure.

Cuisine, restaurants

In addition to its historical and cultural glory, Frankfurt can also boast of gastronomic glory. One way or another, at the end of your vacation spent in this glorious city, you will probably weigh a couple of kilos more than you weighed before.

Almost any restaurant can offer a wide range of different delicious food - these will be schnitzels, sausages, sausages, and, of course, the famous German stewed cabbage.

One of the most obvious examples of such establishments in a purely German style is Atschel. The restaurant is located at the Frankfurt Localbahnhof metro station and can delight guests with excellent apple wine.

If you are a fan of the fish menu, then be sure to check out Alim's Fischimbiss. In addition to constantly fresh fish dishes, this seemingly unpretentious restaurant will also surprise you with its affordable prices.

Local restaurants

Purchases

If you are an ardent shopping lover, then Frankfurt will disappoint you a little. Firstly, it obviously will not please you with a wide selection, and, secondly, it will disappoint you a little with its prices.
