In Montenegro, you can relax either on a package tour or by organizing the entire vacation yourself.

Vacation package It usually works out cheaper and can be organized with less effort.

Self-planned trip Almost always it turns out better and more interesting, but you will have to spend a lot of effort on organizing it, and the cost of the vacation will be even more expensive than the tour.

When is the best time to vacation in Montenegro on a tour?

The main advantage of a tour holiday is the low price. No matter how carefully you plan your independent trip, a similar tour will still turn out to be a little cheaper. You can check prices, for example, at.

If most If you plan to spend your vacation on the beach, then buying a ticket to it will be easier than looking for tickets and everything else.

Vacation packages also have significant disadvantages:

Is it safe in Montenegro? What language, how do they treat Russians?

Montenegro is very safe. The locals are hospitable, there is no rampant crime, even tourists are scammed much less often and more carefully than in other countries popular with Russians.

Of course, sometimes there are pickpockets, but in our 5-7 years of vacation, nothing was ever stolen from us. The Montenegrins themselves are very law-abiding people. The country is small, everyone knows each other. Once you steal something, the stigma will fall not only on the person, but also on his children and grandchildren. Nobody needs this.

But like any popular resort, in the summer many “tourists” come to Montenegro from neighboring countries: Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Romania, etc.

Conclusions: In terms of safety for life and wallet, Montenegro can give a head start to Turkey and Egypt.

Forest fires, which are often shown on TV, usually rage far from the resorts. We almost always find out about them through calls and messages from worried friends and relatives.

You can only see forest fires. Sometimes it looks beautiful, especially the burning mountains in the evening. And sometimes smoke ruins good shots.

Locals Russian-speaking tourists are treated well. Many people understand Russian; they know it better here than English. What can I say, if half of the advertising in the country is in Russian.

However, simple human relationships are very important in Montenegro. Sometimes it's more important than money. Treat people well and they will treat you the same way.

How to find air tickets to Montenegro and when to buy them?

The flight to Montenegro from Moscow takes about 3 hours. There are 2 airports in the country: Tivat and Podgorica.

Most often, tickets to Tivat are cheaper. Getting from Tivat to the coast is also more convenient; from Podgorica it is almost half as expensive.

It is best to buy tickets as far in advance as possible, at least several months in advance. Typically, but not always, the earlier you buy your ticket, the cheaper it will cost.

The easiest way to quickly estimate the price of tickets to Montenegro is to use the low price calendar from Aviasales.ru:

Using the calendar, you can set the city of departure and airport of arrival (check Tivat and Podgorica), the duration of the trip, and search only for direct flights or flights with transfers.

Important point!

When choosing tickets, pay attention to whether the ticket includes luggage.

For example, Pobeda has the cheapest tickets, but they only include hand luggage, and you will have to pay extra for all additional services. As a result, the ticket (including baggage and surcharges) is more expensive than that of S7, Aeroflot, Montenegro Airlines or Air Serbia.

Can be reached to Montenegro and by train from Moscow, but it costs several times more expensive than an airplane(tickets from 250 euros Approximate Euro exchange rate:
250 euros = 18,500 rubles
250 euros = 7750 hryvnia
250 euros = 587.5 Belarusian rubles
250 euros = 292.5 dollars

All rates are approximate, but they help you quickly estimate one-way prices), the journey takes 61 hours and you need a Schengen transit visa. You should use this option only if you have terrible aerophobia.

Choosing a resort and housing: rooms in villas, apartments, hotels

There are four resorts that we would recommend to friends for their first holiday experience in Montenegro. This is , and . They are well suited for casual relaxation.

If you are planning a long vacation, for example for the whole summer, and want to live in silence and without crowds of tourists, you can choose. There are few excursions and the beaches are not very good, but the accommodation is cheaper and the prices are lower.

We are not ready to recommend other resorts. For example, it is very hot and not good beaches, V Petrovac tiny beach and a lot of tourists with sick children, Ulcinj From the apartments to the beach it’s a kilometer walk in the heat without a cover.

We recommend looking for accommodation on or AirBnB.ru. Search on forums, in in social networks, messengers, etc. We don't recommend it. There are a lot of intermediaries with incomprehensible “mark-ups”. Even experienced bloggers and travelers often fall for their tricks, overpaying 20-100% for housing.

Types of housing in Montenegro

The cheapest housing in Montenegro - room in the villa. Usually this is a separate room with its own shower and toilet, air conditioning, TV, balcony and barely working internet.

A hostess will live with you in the villa and you can turn to her for help. Some villas have a kitchen and iron, some do not.

The cheapest rooms in villas are usually quite tiny. They barely fit two single beds, a couple of small bedside tables and a wardrobe. The dining table is on the balcony.

Good apartments and hotels they cost about the same. The apartments usually have a kitchen, washing machine, and iron. They are closer in meaning to an apartment. This is convenient if you want to cook or just live like a local.

IN hotels there is a reception, a lot is offered additional services: laundry, ordering food and drinks in the room, free room cleaning, etc. Good hotels There are not so many in Montenegro; the choice of apartments is much richer.

If you want a local site, take a closer look at Olimpus.me. They offer the same apartments as Booking, but often a little cheaper. We usually look for accommodation on Booking and if it is suitable for long term, we book on Olympus.

Here are examples of housing with prices where we lived in August 2017 (peak season, expensive):

View from the balcony of the apartment we rented in Herceg Novi, on the first line. Price per day 162 euros. For this money there were two balconies, two bedrooms, two separate showers and a large living room with kitchen. The area is guarded, guests can use sun loungers.

Book a car to travel on your own

The most comfortable way to travel around Montenegro, see the sights, go to the beach and the supermarket is to take a. Prices for normal cars start at 25 euros Approximate Euro exchange rate:
25 euros = 1850 rubles
25 euros = 775 hryvnia

25 euros = 29.25 dollars

All rates are approximate, but they help you quickly estimate prices per day.

It's best to book a car immediately after purchasing tickets and rental housing. The cheapest or best options are sorted out first. If you delay booking a little, you will have to choose from what is left at the time of your vacation.

It is best to rent a car on local websites. The most positive reviews at the time of our vacation were about Myrentacar.com. We tried it ourselves. We were satisfied. We recommend.

The feature of the site is not only low prices, but also the ability to choose a specific car. You will know all the characteristics down to the color, gearbox and year of manufacture. You can book, for example, a white convertible for a wedding photo shoot and be sure that this is exactly what you will get.

An idea on how to save money by renting a car

You can rent a car not at the resort, but right at the airport. Then you won’t have to pay for a transfer (for example, to Budva it costs a minimum 23 euros Approximate Euro exchange rate:
23 euros = 1702 rubles
23 euros = 713 hryvnia
23 euros = 54.05 Belarusian rubles
23 euros = 26.91 dollars

All rates are approximate, but they help you quickly estimate prices), which costs the same as renting a car for a day.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Go to Myrentacar.com

  4. You can return your car even the next day by paying just 25 euros Approximate Euro exchange rate:
    25 euros = 1850 rubles
    25 euros = 775 hryvnia

    25 euros = 29.25 dollars

All rates are approximate, but they help you quickly estimate prices

    .
  5. Upon arrival in Montenegro, a company representative will be waiting for you at the airport with a sign.

There are several other ways to save significantly on your vacation by renting a car. For example, you can inexpensively stay in a luxury apartment with a pool, but 10-15 minutes by car from the beach. This is exactly the same distance as walking from an ordinary villa in Budva.

This and other ways to save are described in detail in.

After you book a car, do not forget to download the navigator and maps to your phone. The whole process with pictures is also in the article about renting a car.

We organize transfer from the airport to the resort

If you don’t want to rent a car, you need to take care of a transfer. Taxi drivers at the airport are mostly private. The prices are very high, and their counter can spin faster than the wheels. That is if there is one at all, which is rare.

Getting there by bus is only convenient if you are traveling without luggage or alone. Otherwise, you will have to pay almost the same amount for tickets as for the transfer.

What are the prices in Montenegro? How much does food and entertainment cost?

Prices in Montenegro are lower than most European countries. By and large, even in resort towns they are not much higher than those in Moscow.

Fast food is very helpful for budget-conscious tourists. A hamburger that can replace lunch is worth 1.7 euro Approximate Euro exchange rate:

As you can see, Montenegro offers recreation and entertainment for every budget. There are free options, and there are quite expensive ones that will suit even the most demanding tourists.

My friend and her family went on a wild trip to Montenegro last year and brought back a sea of new experiences and photographs, cat. I was simply fascinated. And I got excited about the trip to this amazing country.

Let me start with the fact that we (me, my 15-year-old daughter, my husband, and my mother) had never been abroad before and there was a certain fear associated with this trip, if only because we definitely decided to do without any hotels and stay in private sector. At the beginning of March, I sat down tightly at the computer (I broke my leg, so I was on sick leave) and began searching for a city in which we were going to relax for a month. Yes, I started with the city, since there are a lot of reviews on the Internet about cities, and we are going for quite a long time, so we didn’t want to be disappointed and then drive around looking for a decent little town. After sifting through a sea of information, I settled on Ulcinj. Well, first of all, within the city there are about 10 beaches for different tastes.

And you have a large and feminine and an ordinary city beach with sand (we were disgusted to swim there, so we didn’t go there) and the Great Beach (super, especially MCM - it’s a beach, cool, clean, 2 sun loungers, a table, an umbrella - 7 euros. Nearby cafe - 25 euros for a meal for four.) It’s true that it takes 10-15 minutes to get to the beach if by car, but we quickly found a taxi driver, cat. for 10 euros he took us there and back. Sand beach It was quite important for us because we had a woman with us with bad legs, and walking on pebbles is not particularly pleasant in this case. In Montenegro, by the way, there are mainly pebble beaches.

Then I got to work on placement. As it turned out, there are a lot of similar offers, but they are in no hurry to respond to letters (one company answered me two months after the request) and, as it turned out later, not all companies write what they actually have. After all, Montenegro is quite fast developing country and it’s quickly under construction, so the construction noise is something, then they don’t write much about what’s next to the house, and it could be a garbage dump and a market (and people, it seems to me, don’t sleep there at all) and a disco until 2 -3 o'clock in the morning and the muezzin calls around the clock (this is only in Ulcinj). In short, the color is solid. In short, I settled on the MONTENEGRO website.

I contacted Yulia through the site (she also once came there to relax and stayed) and laid out the conditions, cat. I needed (3 bedrooms, kitchen, first floor, five minutes walk from the sea, reasonable rent). In short, after a few hours I had information about everything that interested me. And I started choosing. I chose it and didn’t regret it. In general, everything that I listed for 45 euros per day. Our south is resting. The only drawback is there is no air conditioning. But nothing is too good, so we took it calmly.

Then there were tickets, but here everything is simple, through their Montenegro Airlines. 14 thousand round trip, and Aeroflot already had 22 thousand. Feel the difference. Their planes are small, the feeling in flight is still the same, but thanks to purchases in Duty Free We enjoyed the flight.

Well, now about the country itself. By agreement with the same agency MONTENEGRO, and in particular with Yulia, we agreed on a round-trip transfer for 140 euros (and this, excuse me, is the other end of the country, about 2.5 hours away). The hostess greeted us with, believe it or not, donuts (like our loaf) and rakia (local moonshine). We're stunned. She showed and told everything (as far as she could tell, and as far as we could understand). It later became a little easier to understand them, but at first it was a little difficult. I constantly wanted to ask someone about something (like we do) and every time you cut yourself off - they still won’t understand. In short, the first impression was five stars. The beach is really nearby - a city one (I already wrote about it). We were later told about it that Russians don’t swim there and I understand them.

There are too many people, everyone is walking over their heads, there are dirty ones and clean ones, Germans and Italians and Russians and gypsies and whoever is there... The city is old - 14th century. Extraordinary beauty, if you look in the right place. If you are a bore, you can see a lot of not very pleasant things, this is a large amount of garbage on the streets, although there are garbage dumps nearby, which emit the corresponding smell (but it’s July outside, there hasn’t been any heat or rain for 40 days, so everything goes out instantly) and construction is almost everywhere. People amaze you with their kindness, these are not idiotic smiles, but a normal facial expression, cat. asks “How can I help?” and most importantly, he will help, just like that, free of charge and will also say thank you. This is very nice and somewhat reminiscent of Soviet times. Balm for the heart.

Through the same travel agency MONTENEGRO and now Yulia’s assistant Gregory, we decided to go to Lake Skadar. Bus for 8 people. For 4 people we paid 140 euros. The price includes meals, a visit to the wine cellar, and swimming on the private beach. This meal was unforgettable for the amount of drink and food in this cellar. There was no refusal of anything. Drink as much as you want, eat as much as you want. And before that, on the boat itself there is wine for every taste, and brandy, and juices, and homemade cheese, and donuts, and prosciutto. The driver is also a guide, speaks decent Russian, speaks clearly, everything is clear. He knows what a Russian person needs on vacation and treats this with understanding. Then there were various buses and sea travel and everywhere there is a very warm attitude towards Russians. By the way, there are not many Russians in Ulcinj, which makes it more pleasant to be there, unlike Budva and other popular resorts.

From personal observations.

- They love children very much. In an ordinary family there are at least 3 children, and on the beach (I don’t know how it is at home) the fathers take care of the children. That is, every morning on the beach you see one picture. The mother moves in front and leads the eldest by the hand, the father drags behind with two children in his arms, inflated mattresses, inflated toys (options are possible). Moreover, the families are quite young, 25-30 years old for parents and a pioneer detachment of children. It's fun to watch. Then the mother rubs herself with non-stick cream and plops down on the sunbed. And she rises only if she has a desire to swim or feed the children. That's all. The rest of the time, dad tinkers with the children, digs in the sand with them, goes swimming, plays, etc. A balm for the heart. This is what it means to competently approach the issue of raising your offspring and your rest.

– There is a bacchanalia on the roads (by our standards). But in reality, people are in no hurry. This is the life position of all Montenegrins, and when you arrive in this country, you will be convinced of this on the way from the airport. You can stand in a traffic jam for 10-15 minutes. and ultimately find out that they were stopped because a certain person went to the store to buy groceries, and since the roads there are narrow, he just drove and stopped, not turning anywhere (since there was nowhere). But the most amazing thing is the reaction of the drivers, cat. stood and waited. There is no SER. They are calm and not perturbed. And not words of pretension. As if this is how it should be. In two minutes we would already have a crowbar stuck in our heads, but everything is calm there. Amazing. Or they can stop near some roadside cafe (they are there on every corner) and, without getting out of the car, talk to a friend sitting at the table. And everyone is waiting behind. Amazing. In the second half of your vacation, you begin to behave in much the same leisurely manner. You begin to realize that such intensity and speed can only happen in a metropolis, when you are trying to do everything and it becomes a way of life and you don’t notice it

- Nutrition. This is something. The portions are huge. Prices are moderate. Caesar salad, for example, 4 euros. It’s such a portion that you don’t want to eat anything afterwards. Meat from 5 to 15 euros per serving. So this is a portion of ogogo. And what kind of ice cream is there..... There is no such thing anywhere. It is sold on the street and costs 0.5 euro cents per cone. You can eat as much of it as you like. Be sure to try it. In general, as for the cuisine, it is mostly fast food, i.e. pizza for every taste from 3 to 10 euros (the proximity of Italy did the trick) is very tasty, grilled chicken, various varieties of chebureks (in their opinion, bureks are delicious so far hot), cheeseburgers and hamburgers are huge (the taste is unique, not like what we are used to), shawarma (very unique). Well, meat is only a matter of trial and error. From experience I will say that in a pizzeria (no matter how cool it is) you should not order meat, although they do make it and offer it there. The best thing is word of mouth. Try veal, lamb - like in Montenegro, they don’t cook it anywhere.

Prices in stores are lower than in Moscow. For example:

All meat, minced meat (by the way, very tasty) - 4 euros

Beer -0.33L-0.6 euro cents (Nikšička is a very good local beer)

0.5L-0.8 euro cents (all beers sold here are Baks, Hainiken, etc.)

Wine 3-15 euros. Moreover, for 3 euros the wine is no worse than for 15.

There are a lot of bread shops. They bake it themselves. Very tasty. On average, from 0.35 to 0.7 per loaf, and its shapes are the most unusual. There is no black bread anywhere. There is no black (good) tea anywhere. But there are various floral and fruit varieties. There's a lot of coffee, and it's delicious. The same Neskafe will pleasantly surprise you.

- Things. Actually, I'm not really into shopping, but here are the approximate prices for what I saw:

Leather bags, Italian from 10 euros

Men's denim jackets, fashionable from 10 euros

Cool bedspreads from 15 euros

Swimwear from 10 euros

T-shirts from 3 euros

Sandals from 10 euros

Tracksuits from 25 euros

Jeans from 10 euros

Moreover, this lower threshold is cool stuff. Again, the proximity of Italy and Germany dictates prices.

In general, in the process of writing this story, I wanted to return to this wonderful country, these wonderful people, to this measured pace of life, but I will have to dream for a long time before retirement.

I started planning trips without travel agencies a long time ago, and I return to holiday packages only in certain cases: for economic reasons and in order to save time. And go to Montenegro on your own and the Balkan countries close to it (Serbia, Albania), we decided for several reasons.

First: having a small child. A holiday by the sea in an apartment, when you can eat home-cooked food, live outside your schedule and have a lot of freedom, is a very convenient option. There are no crowds of tourists in the apartment, and it turns out that no one will bother you, and the crying of a child will not spoil the rest of others.

Second: the nature of Montenegro. The Bay of Kotor is considered the only European fjord, if you disown Norway. It's very clean salty water with amazing transparency. Industry is not developed at all in Montenegro. It is an agricultural country that lives mainly on tourism. Agriculture and fishing. Fresh mountain air, figs and cypresses, olives, amazing flowers, green mountain slopes with houses scattered across them... Beautiful and mesmerizing.

The third reason: the close mentality of the local residents. Slavic peoples live in Serbia and Montenegro. Orthodoxy is popular among them, their culture is quite close to ours, and they have similar languages (even the alphabet is Cyrillic). And in general, the attitude towards Russians there is very pleasant.

In the summer, many of our compatriots vacation in Montenegro. Some buy or build real estate there and live as rentiers. On the beaches you can always find Russian-speaking interlocutors, friends and helpers. For Russians, the country is visa-free for 30 days.

Our route consisted of two main points and several local exits. First point: a day and a half in Belgrade, which we planned for sightseeing. Second: the village of Lepetane ferry crossing through the Bay of Kotor, where we lived for 19 days. It is located five kilometers from the city of Tivat. Ibid: one of two Montenegrin airports.

The vacation turned out to be long deliberately. With a small child, it is better to leave enough time for acclimatization, otherwise the trip will be harmful to health.

Tickets to Montenegro and flights

Arrive to Montenegro on your own possible in several ways. First: buy a ticket for a charter flight, of which there are quite a few from St. Petersburg and Moscow. Disadvantages of flights: variable departure times, high price, poor service, problems with redemption. A ticket for such a flight could only be purchased through a contract with a travel agency as a service, for cash, in an office on the other side of the city. We didn't do that. However, it is easier to fly non-stop.

Second option: flight from Moscow to Tivat with a transfer in Belgrade. Aerofolt and the Serbian airline Jat have regular flights to Belgrade. In fact, they are combined and executed at the same time on shared plane. The only difference is the price and bonus points, if this is important to someone. There are several flights a day from Belgrade to Tivat from Jat and Montenegro Airlines. Both companies have excellent service and new, clean planes. True, Montenegro Airlines flies small propeller planes. We've never seen anything like this before. Interesting! Everyone has a loyal and attentive attitude towards children - this is encouraging.

Of the four airports (Pulkovo, Sheremetyevo, Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, Tivat Airport), the first and third were the most convenient. Both airports have excellent mother and baby rooms. In both cases they are located in the boarding area, behind check-in counters and border control. In order to get there, you need to show your child to a doctor at the airport first aid station. At Sheremetyevo they didn’t let us in: you can’t enter the first-aid post with a stroller, and security is forbidden to fasten it in the waiting room.

Belgrade

Upon arrival in Serbia, money can be exchanged right at the airport, in a special machine. It’s better to keep cash with you: cards are not accepted everywhere! The prices are quite low: more pleasant than in Russia and Montenegro. You can get around Belgrade on foot, by bus or in a rented car. The city has very inexpensive and convenient taxis, but we did not use them. In Belgrade, we stayed at a hotel on Slavija Square: there is a direct bus from the airport to it. A spacious room with a bath instead of a shower cost 20 euros. There are many hotels in the city, and you can easily find a good overnight stay not in a hostel and in the city center at the right price.

Walking along a short street you can see famous temple St. Sava: one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. The famous destroyed UN buildings can be reached on foot, and from them you can directly reach the city center and the Kalemegdan Fortress. The whole journey took about thirty minutes. The city pleased with its Balkan wear, similarity with Russia and comfort. Belgrade has very kind and friendly people, narrow streets, warm air and unforgettable bakeries. There are political posters about Kosovo on every corner, and on the walls there are many beautiful drawings. Many people understand Russian, and everywhere you can negotiate in English without any problems. There are not very many tourists, and therefore the attitude towards visitors is friendly and hospitable.

Traditional Serbian food: a variety of breads and pljeskavica - a cutlet that is wrapped in flatbread with vegetables. Here they are sold on every corner. Italian cuisine is popular throughout the Balkans. But it’s worth saying that there are still no special traditions, and in terms of color it is not as interesting as in Italy.

Belgrade itself will be remembered Orthodox churches, a fortress overlooking the Danube, historical buildings, Soviet and pro-Soviet architecture and atmosphere. It’s difficult to recommend going to Serbia separately for an excursion program, but it’s definitely worth stopping by the capital along the way. Science fans will love the Nikola Tesla Museum - the only one in the world with his personal belongings and other interesting exhibits.

The currency of Montenegro is the euro, and it is better to buy them at home. We used two bank cards and cash. Payment terminals are available everywhere, except for transport, taxis and markets.

Accommodation

If you are going to Montenegro on your own If you plan to go in the summer, then it’s better to start thinking about housing in November or December. It is best to rent an apartment here. Their price is approximately 30 euros per day and above. A studio room with a kitchenette is enough for two or three people, but you can rent a whole house for a group. The entire coastline is located on steep mountain slopes, so it is better to look for housing that is as close to the sea as possible. The entire long path to the apartment will go almost vertically upward.

When renting accommodation on standard booking sites, you rarely have the option to cancel your reservation. Majority interesting options ends by January, and cancellation will cost the full cost of the stay, so you shouldn’t rely on last-minute deals. They are unlikely to. On the other hand, it is very reliable for both parties, so there is no need to be afraid. In addition to apartments, there are hotels: mainly on big resorts, but their prices are much higher - at the level of good European ones. Many people rent a car and spend the night in campsites with a tent - there are also many of them along the entire coast. The campsites are equipped with a shower, toilet and kitchen, the price per person is from 12 to 20 euros. This option is not for everyone and is not suitable for traveling with a child, but the weather in Montenegro is excellent, and this is often a good and economical option.

Transport

You can travel around the country by local buses, car or taxi. Railway there is only one: from Belgrade to Podgorica and further, to the city of Bari, and there are few trains along it. From Tivat there are frequent low-cost flights to Skopje, Ohrid and Belgrade.

Transport in the Balkans is specific. Buses and routes in all countries are convenient, but there is no way to find out the schedule in advance and buy tickets. In the summer, not all cities make it easy to book accommodation, so traditional European city travel without a car is quite risky. Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina do not require a visa. You can cross the Croatian border with a valid Schengen visa.

You can easily get around the Bay of Kotor by bus. They run every 20-40 minutes on three routes: Tivat-Kotor, Kotor-Kamenari, Kamenari-Herceg Novi. The fare is fixed, from 0.8 to 1.25 euros. Bus schedules can be found at the terminal stations. You can rent bicycles - this is an ideal vacation for people who love an active and healthy lifestyle. There is very beautiful nature, an interesting landscape and, most importantly for a cyclist, a healthy climate.

Cities

In the west of the country, the most important cities to visit are Dubrovnik, Herceg Novi, Tivat, Kotor and Budva. Not far from Dubrovnik, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is Mostar: interesting Small town with object world heritage UNESCO. Resort towns are interesting for their southern architecture: bright houses with bright red tiles, long winding pedestrian streets along the highway, sea coast and very beautiful nature.

Herceg Novi is remembered for the only museum in the area, a botanical garden and a fortress wall.

Kotor: a city with an interesting old center with a pedestrian fortress stretching far into the mountains. Orange trees, a lot of tourists and souvenir shops, and the atmosphere is a bit reminiscent of the Baltics.

Tivat: a classic tourist coastal town. There are many restaurants and shops indoor market with vegetables and fruits, meat, seafood and fish. Here it is best to buy rakia - a local alcoholic drink (strong fruit moonshine) and prosciutto - Serbian smoked meat. You can find a variety of children's toys, diapers, clothes and shoes, household and travel goods.

You can eat a lot and cheaply in the center: for example, in a restaurant City Hall You can safely take one serving for two. On the nearby streets there are still many interesting open cafes and bakeries for every taste. You can safely swim and leave things on the city beach: the crime rate in the country is very low. Not far from the coast, at the end of the main street, there are many branded free taxis with meters. You can get to Lepetane for 3.8-4 euros (without a meter - 6 euros). The Lepetane-Kamenari ferry is free for pedestrians.

Expensive shops and gourmet restaurants can be found in the port area. I can recommend the Mitsu sushi bar: it cannot be compared with domestic ones - expensive, but beautiful and tasty. The Italian restaurant One is also good: it has an excellent selection of red and white wines (Italian, French and local) and serves the famous risotto with black cuttlefish.

Beach holidays are popular along the entire coast Adriatic Sea. The farther from major cities, the lower the prices and the quieter the environment. City beaches and playgrounds are very common. Each village has several rural shops, often fishermen selling fresh fish from their cars. The stores have fairly monotonous, simple products and prices are about one and a half times higher than in Russia, but everything is tasty and of excellent quality. The largest selection is on the Voli network. Local and Serbian wine is inexpensive and all of excellent quality. Be careful: the owner of the apartment sold me “homemade eggs” that she bought in a nearby store.

It is better to go to Montenegro by the sea from July to September. The water warms up by the twentieth of June. You can see nature and coastal cities from May to November: the rest of the time, many hotels, apartments and museums are closed, and transport is rare. The Bay of Kotor has pebble beaches, and the depth increases very sharply. For a child, it is best to take a swimming ring or other means. There is interesting snorkeling in the sea: there are sea breams, catfish, large schools of anchovies, crabs, and many other fish. In Herceg Novi and Budva there are diving centers with equipment rental.

In Tivat we managed to take an excursion to Albania to the cities of Shkoder, Kruja and Tirana. For an adult 35 euros, for a child - 20 euros with a car seat. The unexplored country of bunkers, about which there are many prejudices, will appeal to those interested in the Balkans, Soviet history and travel. The difficult history and difficult path of development of the country are reflected in the architecture, current economy and relations with other states. See bunkers and the modern capital with skyscrapers, ancient fortresses and mosques, eat real oriental cuisine with lamb - and all this, contrary to prejudice, is almost safe and very healthy. The main thing is to carefully monitor your pockets and things, because historical centers There are many poor people and gypsies in every city. Excursions are conducted by a company with central square Tivat: Magnolia. Their email address: [email protected], you can write to manager Maria - she knows Russian.

TOURISTS' ANSWERS:

Montenegro is perfect for organizing independent trip. The country itself is not large and is positively oriented towards tourists, so there is no point in using the services of tour operators. How to do it?! I will try to tell you in more detail.

To begin with I will answer main question, is it really cheaper to book everything in Montenegro yourself than to buy a ready-made tour? By everything I mean: air ticket, accommodation, insurance.

Yes, it really does work out cheaper. Using the example of my trip to Sutomore, it turned out: air tickets for 10,000 rubles per person round trip, accommodation in an apartment for 14 days - 20,000 rubles for the entire period without meals. It ended up being 40,000 rubles. However, it is worth considering here that the Sutomore place itself is considered budget in terms of accommodation. Petrovac will be more expensive, but not much. And in travel agency for a very simple option in Budva at a very low-level hotel "Slowenska Plaza" for the same period and flight we were quoted 70,000 rubles or even more. Of course, it’s not an option to pay that much for such a tour. Therefore, do not be afraid and book everything yourself. The choice of accommodation facilities in Montenegro is huge.

On the “roof over your head” rental market they offer: rooms, apartments, apartments with a kitchen, and of course hotels of various star ratings.

How to book accommodation in Montenegro?!

I’ll say right away that it’s better to do this in advance, although the choice is great, the demand is also not small; closer to the season it’s already difficult to find something good. There remain options remote from the sea with all sorts of nuances.

The price will depend on the month, July and August are considered the most expensive, the price per day during this period is about 50 euros. You can book accommodation through booking sites, the same booking. Or, for example, through thematic websites, where owners post their offers with prices and photographs. I turned to the Montenegro club website for help. I wrote directly to the owner by email, if everything suited me, then I transferred a small prepayment of around 15-20% to his card in order to book a suitable option. If you decide to stay at a hotel, then you will have to pay for your stay immediately. So it's simple. Hosts in the private sector often offer to meet their guests at the airport; such a trip will cost about 40-60 euros, depending on the distance from the airport of your holiday destination. While they are leading you, they will also conduct a short sightseeing tour: what to buy, where to eat, where to go, what to see, etc. You can also ask questions yourself.

Air travel, who flies to Montenegro?

Montenegro Airlines plane

Two airlines fly from Moscow airports: Montenegro airlines - this is their local company, it’s really nothing or I was lucky, and Aeroflot. The average price for a round-trip air ticket per person will cost about 12,000 rubles. The system is the same as for hotels; the earlier you book, the lower the price. You can buy tickets on the official websites of airlines and from companies that sell air tickets. The Internet is full of similar services, but in fact the essence is the same everywhere. You can look for someone cheaper, but there won’t be much difference. Sales for new summer season, airlines usually open far in advance; you can buy tickets already at the beginning of the year. True, the cheapest tariff will not be refundable; if something happens, no one will return your money. If you are afraid to take risks and are flying with children, you can buy a ticket at a different fare with the option to reschedule the flight or cancel it completely without loss, the price will then be higher, about 20,000 rubles.

Well, the last thing you need is health insurance.. It is very easy to purchase; insurance companies issue it immediately after payment. The price of the medical policy is 1 euro per day. Just pay attention to the presence or absence of a franchise. Excess, non-refundable part of insurance coverage. Those. you got sick on vacation, called a doctor through your insurance, provided you with medical care and billed you. Of this you pay 40 euros, and the rest is the insurance company.

Pros and cons of independent holidays in Montenegro.

1. The cost of the tour will be much cheaper

2. When booking your stay you will have a lot of choice

3. During your vacation, you will make more friends, since you will often need to turn to local residents for help.

4. You can travel around the country, stopping in one city or another.

1. You will have to do everything yourself and be prepared for any force majeure.

2. There will be no organized excursions.

I didn’t find any more minuses, and it’s very difficult to call them minuses. Since when you relax with a tour operator, if something happens, you solve your problem yourself. There are no difficulties with excursions in Montenegro; you rent a car, a guidebook and go. You can always take it on the spot personal guide to help, although not all of them speak Russian, but it doesn’t matter. This is how we went to Lake Skadar, our guide hardly spoke Russian and spoke little English. However, we understood each other and it was very interesting.

Don’t be afraid to travel on your own, it’s much more interesting and you’ll get much more vivid impressions on your vacation.

Is the answer helpful?

I have a list of countries (small) where you can and should travel only with the help of tour operators. So, Montenegro is not included in it. In what cases do we buy vouchers? When we want to make our vacation more convenient, safe and cheaper or do not want to obtain a visa ourselves (the latter applies more to small towns where there are no consulates and visa centers). It’s not for nothing that we buy package tours primarily in Arab countries, where the mentality is different, the language is different, and booking a hotel on our own would have cost us many times more.

With Montenegro the situation is completely different. Firstly, tourists coming for up to 30 days will not need a visa. Secondly, the situation with rental housing in resort towns is very reminiscent of our native Krasnodar region. In addition to standard hotels, there are small villas, and there are private sector, renting out rooms with partial amenities. Any of the options can be booked online, or you can find accommodation on the spot. But I recommend the latter option only if you are not traveling during peak season or to a small village. It is best to look for housing on the spot in Budva, the worst thing is in the north of Montenegro in the area of Herceg Novi and Igalo (because there are mainly sanatoriums here).

I also want to talk a little about buying tickets to Montenegro. I liked flying to Serbian Belgrade on Aeroflot and only from there to Montenegro. Firstly, a stopover in a very pleasant and inexpensive country, and secondly, bonus miles dear to my heart. For those who don’t want to linger along the way, the best option Air Serbia offers, again via Belgrade. During the season, you can try to buy a ticket for a charter flight from one of the travel agencies. In general, the lack of regular flights from Russia to Montenegro is probably the main disadvantage in organizing an independent trip to this country.

But what there will be no problems with is the language and mutual understanding with the Montenegrins. Absolutely nice, pleasant and smiling people who will definitely help and advise. I remember I had to catch a certain bus at the bus station, I was a little confused and asked for help. So they escorted me out and put me on my bus. In general, Montenegrins remind me of Serbs more than Croats and Slovenes: they are just as welcoming and hospitable, only lazy. Our languages are very similar, so it won’t be difficult to explain. The older generation still remembers the Russian they learned at school, the younger generation prefers English. But waiters, taxi drivers and other service personnel know a little Russian. But it's all in tourist cities. For example, in Cetinje and Bar, English is more common, even in cafes and restaurants. Although in Cetinje we came across a very nice elderly Montenegrin who spoke excellent Russian and told us a lot interesting stories about this city. In general, as for excursions, you can easily buy them at kiosks on the embankment at any Montenegrin resort. The story will, of course, be in Russian.

In general, I advise you to go to Montenegro, which is very pleasant and hospitable, and go on your own. You won’t save money on this (especially considering that the country is undergoing the euro, which puts its prices on par with Italy and France), but such a trip will allow you to get to know local realities and mentality better.

This small country will surprise you beautiful nature: canyons, blue mountain rivers and glacial lakes, National parks and ancient cities (settlements from the 5th century BC). There, in the coolness of the mountains, you can escape the hot summer when you get tired of the sea and the beach! And you can move around the entire country absolutely independently if you rent a car or take an excursion from a private guide. If you want to save money, you can travel around the entire sea coast by bus: see the cities and attractions. There is no need to go to museums here, just visit Old town(old town) - in Budva, Bar, Ulcinj, Kotor and others. Otherwise, enjoy the natural beauty!

Montenegro is a country where you don’t need to take a tour and sit in one hotel by the sea, go by group excursions in the bus. Here you can move freely on your own, just like in your own hometown. Rent an apartment or house, studio or apartment within walking distance to the sea. Eat at nearby restaurants or cook yourself in your own kitchen. Food prices here are very affordable. In general, do not limit yourself to boundaries that are absolutely unnecessary! Take a foreign passport, you don’t need a visa, buy a ticket, rent an apartment and come. Book hotels in Montenegro yourself

Montenegro is one of the most popular holiday destinations among Russians for several reasons: visa-free entry, mild Mediterranean climate, beautiful landscapes and reasonable prices, so it’s not at all difficult to organize a trip to Montenegro on your own. By the way, Montenegro is traditionally included in the ratings along with Romania, Poland, Bulgaria and others. Let's consider the cost of accommodation in hotels in Montenegro and food prices in 2019 in order to know approximately how much to budget for a trip to Montenegro.

You can book a hotel in Montenegro yourself on the Roomguru service, where thousands of offers of hotels and apartments are collected. The cheapest place to live is in small resort towns, but in well-known resorts such as Budva and Sveti Stefan, housing is quite expensive. Standard hotel room in Bar - from 20 €, in Zabljak - from 14 €, in Ulcinj - from 16 €, in Sutomore - from 18 €.

The resorts of Montenegro have a large selection of apartments - an ideal accommodation option for independent travelers, as they have a kitchen. We recommend searching for and booking them on the popular Airbnb.ru service - there is a large selection of not only rooms and apartments, but also houses and villas. Quite a lot of budget offers. An apartment or studio in Budva can be found from 30 €, in Sveti Stefan - from 40 €.

It is worth noting that when we talk about housing in Sveti Stefan, we mean the village of the same name near the isthmus connecting the mainland with the island. Housing directly on the island of Sveti Stefan is expensive (from 500-700 euros per day), since the island itself is one luxury hotel Aman Resorts.

What to visit and see in Montenegro on your own?

Search interesting excursions on the Sputnik and . Individual and group, without crowds of tourists and in Russian.

The country of canyons, as Montenegro is also called, cannot complain about the lack of attractions: when planning an independent holiday in Montenegro, you need to try hard to visit as many cities and places as possible.

The pearl of Montenegro is called the Budva Riviera - a picturesque stretch of coast with excellent beaches from Budva to Petrovac. It is the Budva Riviera that tourists most often come to. Perhaps the most popular resorts- Budva and Sveti Stefan (Sveti Stefan Peninsula). Other cities in this region are also not deprived of attention: Milocer, Becici, Petrovac, Rafailovici and Przno - almost each of them has its own cultural and architectural monuments.

Advice: rent a car to move freely around the resorts, visit all the most interesting places on your own and enjoy the beauty of the nature of Montenegro. Compare prices from popular car rental companies to find Best offer, convenient at the service. The cost of renting a car is from 10 euros per day. Do you have any questions? Budva

Ancient Budva, whose history began around the 5th century BC. e., can boast of preserved ancient fortresses, monasteries, churches: fortress walls and gates, the fortresses of Citdela and Mogren, the churches of St. Ivan, St. Anton, the Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity - all this can be seen in Montenegro on your own. The city is also nice for its narrow cobbled streets, tiled roofs and beautiful houses.

In addition, Budva is known as a large tourist centre with a developed infrastructure, here you can find entertainment for every taste - from casinos to fitness clubs and sports grounds. Not far from Budva is the island of Sveti Nikola, a favorite local residents, and the ruins of the city of Duklja. However, the resort is quite noisy and crowded due to the numerous tourists.

Red tiles on the roofs are a tribute to an old tradition. They are beautiful, practical and most importantly - cheap. Even wealthy residents now prefer it (Photo © stalkERR / flickr.com)

Sveti Stefan

An independent holiday in Montenegro, of course, should not be limited to the popular Budva and its famous beaches- it’s worth taking a look at the equally famous Sveti Stefan, which has become the calling card of the country. The island hotel is beautiful: inside you will find cozy narrow streets, surrounded by flowers and greenery, and cute fishing houses. And although only guests of Aman Resorts can get to the island, everyone can admire the architecture of the city-hotel and the amazing natural isthmus of the island, as well as sunbathe on the beach (the beach on the left side is free, on the right it belongs to the hotel).

Milocer

This resort village with medieval architecture, it is primarily notable for the fact that people used to live here The Royal Family Karađorđević - a beautiful palace, park and Botanical Garden with rare plants. Above Milocer, on a hill, the 17th century Praskvica monastery has also been preserved.

Resorts of the Bay of Kotor

Boka Kotorska is the name of the most picturesque bay in Montenegro, on the shores of which the famous Tivat, Kotor, Igalo, Perast and Herceg Novi are located. Boka Kotorska is in no way inferior in beauty to the Budva Riviera, and sometimes even surpasses it. Holidays in Montenegro on your own on the Bay of Kotor are primarily suitable for those who want privacy and tranquility; this is a good place to relax with children.

Igalo is good for family vacation with children and for the prevention or treatment of diseases, Kotor - for cultural recreation: the city has many interesting historical monuments, and the resort itself is included in the UNESCO list. In Montenegro, it is also worth seeing Perast - a wonderful small town in the Baroque style, Herceg Novi, full of attractions and located almost on the border with Croatia, and other ancient villages and resorts on the bay.

Of course, as part of a trip to Montenegro, you need to look at Lake Skadar, river canyons, national parks Durmitor and Biogradska Gora, and so on.

And this is still far from full list attractions and interesting places, which are worth seeing and visiting in Montenegro during an independent trip around the country.
