Distance from Barcelona to Italy. From Rome to Barcelona by cruise ferry

Last summer I had a small European tour France - Spain - Italy. And everywhere I covered distances by plane. It’s time to talk about my journey from Barcelona to Milan, one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. I really liked this city. Milan is suitable for lovers of architecture, delicious food, good clothes and just a cozy atmosphere.

Here I will tell you about how I got there myself and a few more optimal options.

By plane

It seems to me that a plane is the ideal option for traveling between European cities. The prices are low, and the flight only takes 1-2 hours.

Several airlines operate direct flights Barcelona – Milan:

  1. Ryanair.
  2. Vueling.
  3. EasyJet.

Schedule

In fact, at least eight planes fly from Barcelona to Milan every day. You will have plenty to choose from:)

Fare

So, as I said, Ryanair has the best deals, you can get a ticket for only 12.00 euros! Vueling prices range from 30.00 euros to 60.00 euros, depending on the tariff. EasyJet offers tickets for an average of 50.00 euros.

Where to buy tickets

You can check the schedule, buy a ticket and reserve a seat on the official website of the airlines: Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling, or you can use a special search engine for cheap tickets, for example.

Airport

Barcelona El Prat Airport is a 30-minute train ride from the city center. The RENFE commuter train departs from Barcelona Sants train station every half hour from 6:00 to 24:00. The fare is approximately 4.50 euros. Tickets can be purchased on site from special machines.

By bus

From Barcelona to Milan you will have to travel 13-15 hours by bus, for me this is unbearable, but if you are more relaxed about it, you can try it.

Schedule

The Barcelona - Milan route is operated by only one bus carrier - Flixbus:

Eurolines buses also operate on the Barcelona - Milan route, but their routes contain 1-2 transfers, such a journey can take 20-30 hours.

Fare

The average ticket price is approximately 45.00 euros. You can buy tickets on the official website of Flixbus. Buses depart from Barcelona Nord station, which is next to the Marina metro station on the Red Line. You can get there from the center in 20 minutes.

By train and ferry

An alternative, but interesting option. In Barcelona we take the ferry and sail to Genoa, from there we take the Trenitalia train to Milan. The cost of a ferry ticket can vary from 60 to 100 euros, depending on the comfort class. Travel time is almost 20 hours. As for the second part of the journey, a train ticket will cost an average of 15.00 euros, and the trip will take about two hours. You can see the ferry schedule.

By train

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Barcelona to Milan, so I think this option is not relevant.

There is one regular train that operates the Barcelona-Milan route, but with two transfers in Valencia and Geneva, in total this flight takes almost 13.5 hours. If you book your trip about a month before the departure date, the ticket will cost an average of 120.00 euros. You can view the schedule.

By car

The distance between Barcelona and Milan is almost 1000 km, which means that the drive will take 10-11 hours. There’s probably no point in renting a car and driving headlong to Milan, because you can check out several beautiful towns along the way: Marseille, Cannes, Nice. This way you will enjoy your trip much more.

The roads are of high quality, it’s very pleasant to drive, and even more pleasant when you can see the sea outside the window :)

Fare

Renting a car in Barcelona for a day costs on average 85.00 euros, a considerable amount. Plus gas costs, depending on your car's needs. By the way, on the way from Barcelona to Milan there are a sufficient number of gas stations. You can stop for a snack in any town or roadside cafe.
