The markings of large modern airliners end in zero, for example A320, or 7, for example - Which manufacturer should the 738 belong to?

This aircraft is a classic example of the “demand creates supply” formula. Despite the release of new versions and modifications, the 737 "is still the most popular airliner. Over its almost half-century history, it has gone through many improvements and modifications. There were cargo versions, there were combis, there was even aircraft No. 1 in its history (not long before the release of the 747 -200). 738-800 Boeing is a representative of the 737 family, or rather, one of the latest modifications of the 737 created as a direct competitor and rival to the European A320.

Why 738?

Having the popularity of the 737 family, it is at the same time the best representative among its brothers, having a large payload, flight range, and at the same time, efficiency. It made its first flight before its closest relative, the 737-400. "Boeing 738" is a shortened version of the full name, but most service documentation uses the full name, 737-800. But it is worth mentioning that in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) - the system that coordinates all companies, airports and aircraft, this aircraft will receive the code B738 - "Boeing 738".

Perhaps the ICAO decision was influenced by the policy of the company, which called the latest modifications of the 737 Next Generation. The aircraft received this name long before the appearance of its direct competitor, practically speaking, from the moment of birth. And if the first versions of the aircraft were called 737-800, then after the appearance of the 320 Airbus, this aircraft received slightly redesigned parts, as a result of which the range increased and it became possible to carry 12 more passengers than in previous models.

Who came first?

Today it is believed that the Boeing 738 was supposed to be the successor to the 737-400, which received everything better from it. BUT! Development of the 738 (then 737-800) began before the 400, and it took off on its first flight two years before the 400 model, which was a very unusual move at that time. The Germans became the customers, and in 1996 the first plane flew into their hangars. And certification in America (the homeland of Boeing 2) was received only in 1998. It is not worth mentioning that comparing the 737-400 with analog filling and the 800 with digital filling would not be in favor of the 400. Boeing’s digital aircraft appeared only after the 320 appeared on the market.

Salon 738

When designing the cabin of this aircraft, the developments of the 777 model were taken into account, which allowed companies to quickly change the seat configuration. In just a few minutes, the business class layout (2+2) could be changed to the 3+3 layout typical of economy class, and back again.

In addition, the 738 is one of the first aircraft of the company to receive removable partitions. When planning only the economy class, the partitions between the cabins were removed, which provided additional opportunities and seats.

Layout options

For comparison, we will consider two layout options: a Transaero aircraft with three classes and one from the European company Ruanair. But first, let's note that the Boeing 738 Transaero has slightly different interior markings. There is no tourist class on the plane, there is economy, luxury economy and business.

This is what the cabin of Transaero Airlines (Russia) looks like. Business class is presented in two rows. However, both do not have a particularly good location, since front-row passengers may be bothered by smells from the kitchen, and second-row passengers may be bothered by noise from neighbors in economy. But business is business: there is a lot of space and the ability to freely recline the seats, since the partition is just a screen.

Rows 10 and 19 are considered good seats - plenty of legroom and the ability to recline. But the 17th and 18th rows have rigidly fixed backrests - emergency exits are located behind them.

With a minus sign you can call the 35th row. The backrest does not recline because there is a wall of the bathroom behind it, and it is quite noisy. Passengers sitting at the aisle in row 34 will feel the same way.

Another example is the Boeing 738, the cabin layout of Ryanair (Ireland). It should be noted that this Irish company is a low-cost airline, so in the entire fleet (which is more than 100 B738 vessels) there are no other options other than economy. Based on a low-cost airline, flying is cheap, but you have to pay for all additional services. The company's planes may be much newer than those of others - the prerogative of a low-cost airline.

Note that opposite the first row is the kitchen, so there are only three seats. But the main advantage: passengers in this row will have a little more space, and there is only a wall in front - no one will recline the seat. Good seats will be in rows 16 and 17, as there are emergency exits in front of these rows and passengers will have more legroom. The company may ask you to pay extra for these places.

And as in the previous case, let’s note row 33 - it can be noisy there, since the bathroom is right behind the wall.

Conclusion

The Boeing 738 is a fairly comfortable narrow-body aircraft from the popular 737 family, one of the latest American developments, which received some parts from future aircraft series. As with any aircraft with engines under the wings, the front part of the cabin is quieter than the middle part. It has a standard 3+3 layout for narrow-body aircraft, which can even be converted into a 2+2 by the company. It is also possible to quickly convert from an aircraft of 2-3 classes to an aircraft of one class, and vice versa.

The number of seats on the Boeing 737-800 (Boeing 737-800) varies (depending on the model and configuration) from 162 passengers in a two-class cabin to 189 people in a single-class cabin.

As we have written many times, there can be hundreds of different modifications of the same airliner model. It depends on the year of manufacture, the number of passenger seats, “class”, as well as the configuration that a particular airline ordered for its needs.

Therefore, it is impossible to consider all options. In order to choose a good seat for yourself, you need to familiarize yourself with the cabin layout of the Boeing 737-800 (Boeing 737-800), the airline whose services you decide to use. Only then can we draw conclusions.

Attention, friends! We analyzed this aircraft model for all major Russian airlines.

If your airline is not on the list, don’t be upset, there are general recommendations that you can follow to find good seats on your own.

The best seats on the plane
Anna Morozova, editor-in-chief

For example, consider 2 diagrams of a Boeing 737-800.

The first option is a one-class cabin for 184 passengers (Austrian Airlines), the second option is a two-class cabin with 16 business class seats, 144 economy class seats (American Airlines).

So let's begin. On first picture, places in the front row are located directly in front of the kitchen and dressing room, therefore, may have less legroom than standard ones. Also, there is a possibility that the folding tables, which are usually located in the back of the chair in front, are attached to the armrest. This reduces both the width of the chair and comfort, because in this case the armrest is fixed.

For the same reason, yellow are indicated seats in the 7th row, in the second picture. Only instead of a kitchen, there is a partition separating business and economy classes.

Seats in the 10th and 11th rows, marked in yellow, do not have a porthole. Thus, completely losing their advantage over others of the same kind in other ranks.

Also, attention! There are models that do not have this drawback, but there are liners in which they are located in 8, 9 and other rows.

Seats in rows 13 and 14 located near emergency exits. In this regard, the backrests do not recline back (so as not to block the doors), or have a limitation in this.

Also, passengers notice that in row 14 during the flight it is colder than in other places.

True, these places also have the advantage of additional legroom and you can leave any of them without disturbing your neighbors.

Extreme places in row 16 in the first picture and at 15 the second one is probably best. Their advantage is that there will be additional free space in front of you. You can stretch out and, if necessary, stand up from any chair without disturbing your neighbors.

Places in the last row are located near the toilet, in the tail. Most likely they do not recline, or have a limitation in this. Also, there may be a queue for the toilet. In general, definitely not business class.

Now, in general, about the advantages and disadvantages of places.

The seats that are located near the window have the advantage that you can look out and enjoy the views and the flight (it all depends on the weather and flight time). No one will bother you when sitting down or getting up from your seat. These places have one drawback - it is difficult to get up from it without disturbing the neighbors.

The seats located in the middle do not have access to the window, but they are also not disturbed by people scurrying along the aisle and flight attendants with carts. It’s easier to get up, disturbing just one person.
Seats located near the aisle have another advantage - it is easy to leave your seat, for example to the toilet, or during an evacuation. Disadvantages: there is no access to the window, and flight attendants with trolleys and people passing through the cabin may also disturb you.

More Boeing 737-800 variants
  • If possible, carefully study the diagram of the airliner on which you will fly. We have a special section on our website - “The best seats on planes”
  • Ask an airline representative for advice
  • Studying the interior layout, choose the optimal seats, guided by the same rules that we have given
  • Before the flight, decide what is more important for you - looking out the window or the ability to freely get up from your seat, for example, to the toilet
  • Do not take seats at the very rear, close to toilets, kitchens and other technical rooms.
  • Do not take seats in which the seats do not recline or are limited in this
  • Don't take a seat between emergency exits, or for which it is located
  • Don't take a seat before or for with which the partition is located

In principle, using these simple rules, you can determine good and bad seats in the cabin of any airliner.

We wish you a successful landing!

Rossiya is the largest airline in the Aeroflot group. The geography of its flights covers 120 routes within the Russian Federation and 22 foreign destinations. In 2014, the Zenit football club appointed Rossiya as its official air carrier.

The main airport is Pulkovo in St. Petersburg. The aircraft fleet includes 61 aircraft, 16 of which are Boeing 737-800.

Boeing 737 airliners are used on short and medium-haul routes.

Boeing 737-800 interior diagram

Rossiya uses 3 types of seat layouts on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Two of them are in full economy class for 189 passengers. They differ only in the placement of the 1st row: it can start on the left side with seats A, B, C or on the right - D, E, F.

The two-salon layout is designed for 168 seats.

Is it possible to choose your own seat and fly with greater comfort? And where is the best place to sit on a Boeing 737-800?

Cabin layout for one class

Let's consider the arrangement of seats on an airplane of only one class. Rossiya has such a layout of the Boeing 737-800 cabin, designed for 189 passengers and consisting of 32 rows.

Layout for 189 passengers

Rows 1-10 - bow. If you are asked about your preferences during check-in, feel free to choose seats in this part of the plane, they are considered the most comfortable. Why?

The most comfortable in this area of the Boeing 737 "Russia" are considered to be the first row A, B, C and the second D, E, F (and vice versa, see the cabin diagram). It will be comfortable for pregnant women, disabled people and passengers with small children to sit here: the space in front of the seats is very comfortable and there are holders for the cradle (see photo).

Baby bassinet in the first row

If you require a carrycot, please request it at least 36 hours before departure. Upon registration you will receive priority to use it.

Rows 11-21 – the middle part of the plane above the wings. If you are afraid of turbulence, choose places here, this zone is the most stable. The view from the windows will be partially blocked by the wings, so those who like to look out the window will not like it here.

22-32 row. The tail of the plane is the most uncomfortable area. Here you can hear the noise of the engines and feel more turbulence. The queue for the toilets is crowded at the last five rows. The worst seats are considered to be the last row. The backrests do not recline because they are blocked by a partition.

Seats near emergency exits

In front of rows 15 and 16, on both sides, there are 4 emergency exits. Sitting here is very comfortable thanks to the large space in front of the seats. If you look at the layout of the cabin, in this area the most comfortable in the Boeing 737-800 is row 16. Rossiya does not provide these seats to the following categories of passengers:

  • Passengers with children from 2 to 12 years old.
  • Unaccompanied children under 18 years of age.
  • Pregnant.
  • For passengers with animals.
  • Foreigners who do not speak Russian and English.
  • For disabled people.

These restrictions are introduced for flight safety. The people sitting here, in the event of an accident, will have to strictly follow the instructions of the pilots and flight attendants.

Best places

"" sells the best seats on the plane for an additional fee. They are called "Space+". Please check this information when checking in for your flight.

Increased comfort seats on Boeing 737-800

According to the diagram, the best seats in the Boeing 737 800 Rossiya Airlines cabin are:

  • 1 A, B, C and 2 D, E, F – wide pitch of seats and cradle mounts.

Be careful, on VQ-BUF and VQ-BUE aircraft this is:

  • 1 D, E, F and 2 A, B, C
  • 16 A, B, C, D, E, F (in all single-cabin Boeing 737 800) - large space in front of the seats.

Nice places

  • 15 A, B, C, D, E, F – comfortable legroom, but the backs of the seats are blocked.

Bad places

  • 31 C, D – aisle seats next to the toilets, there may be constant disturbance by people standing in line;
  • 32 A, B, C, D, E, F – blocked seat backs, proximity to toilets.

When can you choose the best seats on a plane? If you are flying with Rossiya on a Boeing 737-800, this can be done at check-in at the airport or independently online 24 hours before departure.

Cabin layout for two classes

Look for cheap tickets for any type of transport without leaving your home:

Boeing 737-800 "Russia" with two classes of service on board are designed for 168 passengers. According to the cabin layout, 12 seats are allocated to “business class” and 156 to “economy” class. Let's look at how to choose the best places.

100% comfort in business class

The business class cabin has 3 rows of 2 seats on each side. Comfortable space between the seats allows you to relax during the flight. This cabin is not as noisy as the “economy” one.

During the flight, business passengers can use blankets and sleep masks.

On board the aircraft you are allowed to use phones, tablets and computers without Internet access.

Comfortable stay in business class of Boeing 737-800 "Russia"

Economy class

The Boeing 737-800 has 26 rows in economy class. It starts from row 4. Let's look carefully at the diagram and choose priority places.

Rows 4-9 – bow. If these places are free, choose them. Many airlines sell them at a premium rate.

The first row is the most comfortable for passengers with infants; there are mounts for a cradle. It will also be convenient for passengers with disabilities.

The carrycot is provided for children up to one year weighing up to 9 kg.

For children over 2 years old, there is a child seat that is attached to the seat on the plane.

It is better for transit passengers to board in this part of the aircraft. After landing, they will get out faster and check in for their connecting flight. The photo shows the first row of economy class.

First row in economy class on a Boeing 737-800 Rossiya

Rows 10-17 – the middle part of the plane above the wings. If you are afraid of flying or are afraid of turbulence, choose seats in this zone, you will be more relaxed.

The view from the windows in the middle part of the plane is partially limited by the wings; for those who like to look at the panorama, this is not the best option.

Rows 12 and 13 – seats of increased comfort near emergency exits. The downside is that you can’t put bags under the seats, it’s cooler here and the seat backs in row 12 don’t recline. Not all categories of passengers may be seated in the emergency exit seats (see above in the description of the cabin with one class of service).

Rows 17-26 – tail section. The tail of an airplane is an uncomfortable zone. This is where the engine noise is loudest and chatter is greatest.

The worst seats are the aisle seats at the end of the cabin and the very last row.

Designation of seats in the cabin

All seats on the plane are indicated by letters:

  • The windows have the letters A and F. For those who fly alone, who like to read or sleep, this is the best choice.
  • Middle – B, E. It is better for people with aerophobia to sit in the middle.
  • The extreme ones are C, D. The aisle seat is good for those who like to sit with their legs stretched out or often walk around the cabin during a flight.

Best places

At Rossiya Airlines, regardless of the layout of the Boeing 737-800 cabins, there are seats with a large seat pitch:

Nice places

  • 12 A, B, C, D, E, F – large legroom, but fixed seat backs;
  • 13 A, F – there are no armrests on the side of the aircraft.

Worst places

  • 28 C, D – aisle seats next to the toilets;
  • 29 A, B, C, D, E, F – the very last row, the backs of the seats are motionless.

Video review of the aircraft

You can look at the Boeing 737-800 aircraft of Rossiya Airlines in the presentation video dedicated to the Kaluga airliner, which arrived at the airport of the same name:

To make your flight on a Boeing 737-800 comfortable, carefully study the cabin layout in advance and choose the best seats based on your own priorities. Rossiya wishes you a pleasant flight!

The Boeing 737-800 twin-engine passenger aircraft belongs to the family of narrow-body aircraft designed for short and medium-sized flights and is part of the “Next Generation” series. First of all, the Boeing 737-800 was developed to replace the Boeing 737-400 passenger airliner included in the “Classic” series. Today, the direct competitor to the Boeing 737-800 airliner is the narrow-body passenger aircraft Airbus A320.

Work on the Boeing 737-800 airliner began on September 5, 1994. The project was initially referred to as the 737-400X Stretch, indicating its predecessor aircraft. The project later received its current designation -737-800.

Boeing 737-800 photo

Compared to the Boeing 737-400, the fuselage of the new aircraft has become 3.02 meters longer. Passenger capacity has also increased. In a two-class layout, the cabin accommodates 162 passenger seats - 12 business class seats and 150 economy class seats. The maximum passenger capacity with a single-class cabin layout is 189 passenger seats.

The aircraft was equipped with CFM International CFM56-7B24s turbofan engines with a thrust of 107.6 kN. Subsequently, on some Boeing 737-800 aircraft with increased payload capacity, CFM56-7B27s engines with a thrust of 121.4 kN were used.

Like other aircraft of the 737 Next Generation series, the Boeing 737-800 is equipped with EFIS digital avionics from the American company Honeywell. All onboard and flight information is displayed on six multifunctional LCD screens. The airliner is also equipped with a head-up display (HUD) or Head-Up Display (HUD).

The Boeing 737-800 made its first flight on July 31, 1997. The first delivery to the airline took place in April 1998. The first customer for the aircraft was the German airline Hapag-Lloyd Flug. The largest order for 737-800 airliners came from the Irish airline Ryanair, which is one of the largest low-cost airlines in Europe. Today, this operator's fleet includes 299 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. These Ryanair aircraft have a single-class, economical cabin layout designed for 189 passenger seats.

In addition to the passenger version, based on the Boeing 737-800, the Boeing Business Jet 2 was produced, intended for administrative air transportation.

The Boeing 737-800, in its modification designated Boeing 737-800ERX (Extended Range), is also used by the US Navy as a multi-role aircraft. This modification is also known as the Boeing P-8 Poseidon.

On July 17, 2013, test flights of a Boeing 737-800 aircraft were carried out, on which new wingtips, the so-called winglets, were installed. The new wingtips are called Split Scimitar Winglets. These winglets, installed and tested on the Boeing 737-800, are subsequently planned to be used on the new series of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The Boeing 737-800 remains one of the most popular airliners of the entire 737 family. The production and operation of this aircraft, as well as the modernization of its components, continues to this day.
